Poker proves winner for CryptoLogic

CryptoLogic, the internet gaming software developer, announced better-than-forecast third-quarter results, driven by the rapid growth of its online poker product and a solid performance by the internet casino business.

Online poker fees from its WagerLogic software licensing subsidiary increased more than 55 per cent from the previous quarter and represented more than 20 per cent of total third-quarter revenue.

Quarterly sales rose 43 per cent to $15.6m (£8.5m), pre-tax profit to $3.4m ($2.5m) and earnings per share from 18 cents to 22 cents. The shares rose 70p to 962½p yesterday. Peter John

Yes. Considering poker revenue has nearly doubled to just over 20% and is still riding the crest of what seems to be a very big wave, it is surprising there is no publicity. I first heard of these from a minor reference in Shares and expect a brief comment again sometime now that there is an interesting poker angle to report. Not sure that it will raise any interest though - results out today and a total of two trades reported. Whoopie.

Amazing how little interest compared to other betting and poker stocks. I hold both Cryptologic and Sportingbet to make sure I don't miss out. These results are pretty good and the balance sheet looks solid. I think they will go up further once the news sinks in

Well. Just come home and find nobody has taken advantage of the better than expected results. Earnings have held up despite raised investment spending due to better than expected poker revenues which achieved 12%, 18% then 20% of revenues in Q1,Q2 and Q3. You could have bought in ahead of US and Canadian markets opening. The quarterly dividend has been raised from 3 cents to 5 cents. Looks a good solid set of results all round.

Prospering CryptoLogic recommended to investors

In Canada, the leading software developer for the online gambling industry, CryptoLogic, is being pushed forward as a strong investment opportunity following a successful year so far. A Toronto based company, CryptoLogic have earned US$7 million in profit in the first half of the year. Overseas expansion has played another role in the success, with revenues from overseas clients now accounting for 60 percent of their total revenue. The prosperity as a whole of the online gambling has resulted in several companies being put forward by analysts as a strong choice for investors, Cryptologic with its growth and profits achieved this year, is the latest being recommended to investors.

Legalisation of online gambling in US inevitable

The fourth of the summits held to discuss the issues and future of the online gambling industry in the US took place on Friday. The topic was the potential legalisation of online gambling within the US. Despite the recent developments last week with congress trying to attach an anti-online gambling bill, to anti-terrorism legislation in progress, there was still optimism expressed for the eventual permission and regulation of online gambling.

The main cause for the belief that prohibition will be relaxed, is the belief that the state governments will be ultimately responsible for providing a solution. The Vice President of River City Group, and editor of Interactive Gaming News, Mark Balestra, presented the case that were already models existing for how online gambling could be successfully regulated at state level. He cited examples such as inter-state wagering on regional lotteries, as well as pari-mutuel gambling.

The summits that have been held, hosted by BetOnSports, are part of a public policy initiative being held on a national level. Entitled "Proposition 1: To Regulate or Prohibit Online Gambling", the summits have been held to encourage debates amongst industry experts, as well as leading figures in the media, advertising and academic sectors, discussing the issues crucial to the question of legalising the online gambling industry within the US. Across the four summits held so far, the majority expressed an opinion that the eventual lifting of the current prohibition on the industry was inevitable, and talk progressed to the best ways to regulate the industry for its consumers. The discussions, which are soon to be followed up by a series of debates held on college campuses, as well as a national advertising campaign, will be contributing to a white paper produced on the subject later this year.

CRYPTOLOGIC ANNOUNCES NORMAL COURSE ISSUER BID

September 21, 2004 (London, UK) - CryptoLogic Inc., a leading software developer
to the global Internet gaming industry, announced today that its Board of
Directors has authorized the company to make a Normal Course Issuer Bid.
Purchases under the bid may commence on September 23, 2004 and will terminate on
September 22, 2005.

CryptoLogic's share purchase program authorizes the company to purchase up to
1.25 million shares of the issued common shares, representing less than 10% of
the current public float of 13,007,558 shares. There are currently 13,085,111

Fireswirl Technologies are launching their first partnership programme in Europe, in a bid to develop relationships with companies in the UK. Fireswirl is a software development company for online poker sites, and is now looking to expand its interests to the UK and Europe.

The partnership programme is offering operators pre-sales and technical support, will issue partners with marketing materials and host product seminars. Products are being offered at discount rates and any keen affiliates have the option to take advantage of extended credit terms.

The Executive VP of Fireswirl, Johnson Chandler, explained the motivation behind the initiative: "Fireswirl have an exceptional product to offer, but our exposure to the European market is yet limited. Online poker operators in Europe often find it difficult to source a solid and reliable poker software solution. Olympics draw in new customers for William Hill

As most major sporting events seem to do these days, the Olympics is resulting in increased activity for online gambling sites. William Hill have said they have received bets so far on the event from 159 different countries-almost as many countries as the number taking part in the event.

A spokesperson for William Hill, Graham Sharpe commented: 'For the first time punters worldwide have access to Olympic betting via the Internet, and we anticipate that there will be a record turnover as a result".
