If you don't know which betting and gaming company will come out on top in the battle for the rapidly growing internet gambling market, try the company that supplies them all with software. CryptoLogic provide gaming software and support services to William Hill, Littlewoods, UKBetting, Betfair and Betinternet. The online betting and gaming market looks to be gaining strength and CRP are no exception looking at recent results. They even have a piece of the booming poker market. The balance sheet is strong with no debt and cash (inc. near cash liquid assets) of over £3. The dividend for Q3 was raised to 5 cents.

Recent news suggests poker is now a major driver for Cryptologic. Poker revenue went from 12% in Q1 to 20% in Q3/04 ($1.7m to $3.1m).

FYI - Article in today's Investor's Chronicle

CRYTOLOGIC (CRP) : Good Value

Playing the booming UK gaming market proved a smart move for Canadian internet gaming software developer CryptoLogic. The UK now contributes 30 per cent of group licensee revenue - over half its international income. Last year William Hill, the Ritz online casino and Littlewoods signed up. And in January, betting exchange Betfair followed suit. Poker and bingo, now accounting for 10 per cent of revenue against 1 per cent in 2002, were the key growth products.

Continuing US regulatory uncertainty cut revenue share in the Americas by a third. But even in growth areas - particularly the UK, where the government wants a world-scale business - tighter competition is squeezing prices. So despite its rising cash pile, CryptoLogic preferred to step up product development spend rather than diverting resources to a dividend increase. The company now employs 90 developers, with the business focus narrowed to the most profitable licensees.

Listing on the London stock market in September and obtaining an Alderney software certification were part of its strategy of quality image-building.

Signs of a strong first quarter have encouraged broker Desjardins to raise its price target from US18.75 to $20 a share (about 1,075p). The broker forecasts EPS of 81¢ for 2004 and 87¢ for 2005, against 75¢ in 2003.

Any ideas for the recent surge in the share price? Potentially a precursor to the release of great Q4 results on 26th Feb, or just maybe a predator could be sniffing around eg Boss Media or Microgaming?

Hoping for some excellent results on the 26th February. Plenty to go for even with the wide spread. IMO DYOR

Whilst the spread is well nasty what do people think about the Cryptologic - cash rich, profitable... Worth a punt or not?
