mcmather, all good points you have made and it does come down to that the management must be prepared to learn the sharp end of the retail trade not just the behind the scenes organisation, and if they are not to up to it then employ someone who is.
Firstly they must be prepared to listen to people with experience and act on their guidance. If they do not agree then further discuss the suggestions and see if adjustments can be made to improve the business, after all we are all interested in developing Crawshaws. Which leads me to mention that I have not received a response to my email re the Merrion Center store which has great potential but it must be made into a store that customers look forward to visiting again and again.

ps along with my email address I gave my mobile no and home address

If I was the CEO I'd be looking at certain staff that have a certain affinity with their typical customer and get them promoted pretty darn quick.. oh and this certainly is not the class from Lidl

brando, so you think she works in the shop and also does Customer Relations at Head Office...I think that very unlikely.

Optomistic... possibly explanation is that the girl serving in Leeds shop on Monday only gets a chance to answer emails on a Friday

I visited Leeds on Monday and found that Crawshaws have opened a store in the Merrion Center. I was pleased to see a queue waiting at the hot food section...until I got nearer and saw that one girl was struggling to serve them all on her own (this was lunch hour and the people waiting could well have been limited for time) there was one person in the 'body' of the shop with one man hanging around not looking very attentive. Where was the staff to serve customers when they needed serving quickly?
I emailed Crawshaws to give my views on this experience and was hopeful of a response but sadly I have not received one...perhaps like the waiting customers in the Merrion Center, not considered important :-/
This outlet has great potential with a tremendous amount of shoppers, workers, students etc passing by but to get the best out of it things need sharpening up a bit here.

If Gorton fails it will be looked on as a lamentable decision to have opened in a location with such a transient population. The factory shops are wonderful but only if the location is correct. I suspect Gorton is their worst performing factory outlet and it's only going in one direction.

My reference to the outcome at Gorton is to the future leadership not the actual business model.

Back to watching the snooker...

A couple of stores seen this week have had sh1tty posters up in their windows flagging up various cheap offerings. It gives a tacky impression and probably not what you want to be associated with the place where you are considering buying meat products; ie such stuff actually puts customers off. But it also leaves the impression that whichever bell in management decided upon this hasn't got a scooby.

playful, is there more to that comment over and above the company having most recently decided to go down the factory store route as opposed the high street route?

The future of this company pivots on the success or failure of the Gorton factory shop…

Yep. Looks wrong doesn't it mcmather. Looked on web-site and this concurs that on 26/08/16 Schroders held 7.09m. No doubting that Threads have gone over 5.8% from an undeclarable (if any at all?) previously though. But again, one wonders why ?
