Well, as Sparky Brand is expensive and its target audience the Yummy (wealthy) mummy I would have thought that Waitrose would have been the perfect demographic for this product. It is only a matter of time before Sainsbury and Tesco produce their own much cheaper version of.... Indeed I noticed that Sainsbury have launched an omega 3 smoothie. They have managed to upset dyslexics with their silly packaging, omega 3 in the fish derivitive is not suitable for vegetarians although there is no warning of this. They do not sell their orange juice, chickens or bread anywhere that I know of. What is going on?
I think a loss of 10 miilion on a small named juice drink is some debt. I thought Conival were supposed to be launching foods with named chefs. have they all run off?
I would say we should join the chefs and move on!

There's a waitrose near me,ive only been in there a few times but it is more expensive than sainsburys -tesco ect...
I get the empresion the people who shop in my waitrose are all very wealthy and would tend to stick to what they normaly buy, who arnt looking for bargins on new products, that don't have the dellmontie logo on if you know what i mean!
But the short answer is i don't realy know how long they can keep there outlets going for or how long they have got before financial trouble sets in.
Though they did go up a few tick's the other day.
Is it worth buying any more or should we hold tight for now?.

Regards dobo.

They were D-listed from Waitrose as it didn't sell. It's ok being listed for six months but can they keep their other outlets?

Thats more like it. its nice to read somthing positive about CVL for a change.
If they can turn 10M loss into profit then thats brilliant!
I also have noticed how quickly there fruit juice drinks are disappearing from my Sainsburys store also, but 10M is rather a lot of fruit juice...

Regards dobo.

Well worth a gamble, every day i'm in my tesco's at 8.30 am and the drinks they have are selling out so clearly there is a demand, at least there is near me anyway. It can only be good that they are getting these new contracts with tesco and boots.
It may be sometime before they begin to post a profit but i think its well worth going for.

Is this the begining of the old slippery slope for CVL then? or can it turn the out-laying loss around?
Their fruit juce drinks are delicious but so are all the others!
Maybe some time then....

Believe it or not I hate seeing people lose money in this way.

There are too many companies floating which are purely and simply start-ups.

Regardless of whatever it says in the prospectus or how ever many brokers push them, they are just that - startups.

In the non-PLC world the majority of startups go bump within 3 years - I forget the statistics, but they are painful to see.

There is no difference in the PLC float world imo, its just on a bigger scale and it takes a load of investors with it, whereas for private companies the founders lose their houses.

Maybe cynical, but if you're a founder and you've got the choice (through contacts, publicity and sheer gall etc. etc.) then the option of floating is much more attractive than risking all your own savings and house(es).

That, and the equally ethereal 'potential portfolio' sums it up perfectly mj.

Is there any actual hard information anywhere that can be used to value the company?

Conival (AIM: CVL) announces that it has secured listings in 180 Tesco stores
from 16 October for its new superfruit juice drink, the Acai and Mango juice, in
1ltr packs.

180 stores, that's nice, but how much does CVL get per unit sold? Until we're given basic financial information like this, CVL is a pure gamble on hope that the drinks will catch on in sufficient volume to justify the company's market cap and more.

Can anyone comment?

Latest news (22/9) on Tesco and their new Acai drink is v. positive; apparently, Acai is 'the next big thing' in heath foods.

Full credit to them for their marketing, which is streets ahead of the rival Sirco drink from Provexis (PXS), despite Sirco having patented science behind their product. CVL looks like better short term punt until PXS update the market on their licensing deal.

Bit of action! Tesco deal looks encouraging. Perhaps there's life in the old dog yet! My broker was quick off the mark again, full of confidence in the company and trying to get me to top up further. But the top up necessary to average down significantly with the spread as it is, is substantial (like 100%)and I'm close to five figures already. I don't believe this is the no-brainer he claims it to be and on past performance, nothing is going to happen quickly. Quicker returns to be had out there methinks.

Any views anybody?

If you call heavily locked in at relatively high average, then YES, Lyndy! Do you?
But my interest has waning considerably of late... to the extent that I told my broker this morning that I was not going to take him up on his recommendation to average down further. He reckons they are not going any lower, but with the current spread, they've got to go some to go nowhere on return! And on current performance its not going to be quick.

Always worth remembering that companies float:
1. To allow original investors to get out
2. To get money for expansion, pay off debts, loans etc. etc.

They don't float to make money for new shareholders, but they have to look like they will from the prospectus.

imo you're just lucky if you make money from a float, unless you just stag a promising hyped new issue.

My record on floats: lost 4 out of 5 bigtime. Stopped doing it in 2001 and started buying floats a couple of years down the line, when you can see whether its really a growth business or whether its been smoke and mirrors.
Still not brilliant but at least have made small overall gain. Buying established growth stocks performance has greatly exceeded anything floatish.

LONDON (AFX) - Conival PLC, the branded food and drinks company, said it has
made good progress this year to date with the launch of Sparky Brand juices into
three major multiples.
In a statement, the company said it is continuing to introduce new "super
juices" and looks forward to continued progress with Blenheim Palace Provisions,
which will target a different segment of the market.
Conival has conditionally placed 76 mln new shares at 1 penny per share,
raising a total of 760,000 stg.
The proceeds will go towards working capital requirements, including the
further development and marketing of its Sparky Brand range of fruit juices and
the launch of a new range of fruit inspired products under the name of Blenheim
Palace Provisions.
Further, the company said it is proposing to capitalise 250,000 stg of the
debt owed to Corvus Capital Inc, by issuing 25 mln shares, also at 1 penny each.
Following this, Corvus will hold a 30.6 pct stake in the company.

I shall apply for certification immediately. No point in waiting for September after this!
Really can't see any upside within 12 months now?
