Just got into these shares about 3% ago a bit like Dave looking for the long term. However they seem to be a bit cyclic and you are seeing as many buyers as sellers at the moment the key will be over the next few days if we can reach and hold above the 150 I believe things look good for 200+

Very true....

Im in for the long term anyway so not that bothered, slow and steady will do me just fine.

Nice to have a share that doesnt bounce around like a looney at the merest hint of a rumour of a rumour of news

Anyway - too nice a day, so out for a stroll....

No, dave, us COBbers are like train-spotters - a perfectly acceptable choice but probably one you wouldn't talk about in public!

8-)

Good grief - someone else who shows an interest in COB !!
Thought I was the only one who bothered to look at this BB

Strange share this - good company (local to me) wins a lot of contracts but suffers from indifference when it comes to the share price

LONDON (AFX) - Cobham PLC said Embraer has selected Chelton Satcom's
HSD-7000 Inmarsat Swift64 Aero High Speed Data system to provide the LEGACY
corporate jet with global in-flight connectivity.
Cobham also said the Chelton HGA-6000 High Gain SATCOM antenna has been
selected by Gulfstream for optional installation as part of the broadband
multi-link fully integrated Inmarsat and SKYlink satellite communication systems
on their G450 and G550 aircraft.
No financial information was available for either of the contracts.
Two aircraft will be modified for testing and the first installation is
currently underway in Savannah, with Supplemental Type Certificate approval on
the G550 expected by the end of the year.
A G450 STC is planned for Spring 2005.
Chelton Defence Communications, together with US team partner, Northrop
Grumman, has also received a 6 mln stg order from the US Army Communications and
Electronics Command (CECOM). ROVIS is a digital audio system which provides
noise free communications between crew members inside combat vehicles and
externally to up to six combat net radios.
To date, over 25,000 systems have been delivered in fifteen countries.

Broker just rang me to advise of the 4.4pc fall of Cobham and said some institutions were considering that maybe Meggitt offered better value. But he conceded that shorters were probably at work on Cobham and couldn't argue against my decision to hold.

Well it's certainly broken out of its old trading range, Kevin (see chart in post#1 above)! Will the run continue or time to take some profits? Now trading on a PER around 15 and net divi yield around 2%, so neither overvalued nor cheap. Interim results due on Tuesday (14/9), although they warned earlier that H1 would suffer some impact from weaker dollar.

A punt for long term investors, not a ramp TRL Electronics will not be known to many investors of BA, But they are in direct competition
This company was floated on the AIM on the 21st of July, 40% of the shares where issued to the market, the placement offer was 2.5 times oversubscribed on flotation, and well received by invetors.
Revenues and profits are expected to increase by 30% year on year, Ultra attempted to purchase the company 6 months ago for an undisclosed amount in millions, a unique opportunity for a long term investment.
How long it stays independant before the large companies BA,ULTRA,and COBHAM come in one will never know.

Ian - I think you and I are the only holders. Significant move today after good results. Perhaps the 1260 level might now become support instead of resistance. One of the boring bedrock shares in my SIPP.

Well, there you go! EADS duly given the contract, so a nice little earner for the next 27 years for Cobham, among others (Rolls Royce was sufficiently chuffed to put out a RNS this morning). But clearly COB does not have many fans - either on this bb or the market - as shares only marked up a modest 10 this a.m. to 1170. It's never going to set the world alight as a multi-bagger, but on 'underlying' (i.e. pre-amortisation/exceptionals) earnings of 86.1p in 2002 giving a historic PER of 13.5, it's valued fairly modestly for a company which is at the forefront of its technology, has the security of being 'embedded' in the air forces of the UK and US and has a good track record of above-average earnings growth over a considerable period. A 'sound' investment rather than an exciting one, perhaps, but we've got to put our money somewhere!

Funny old share, Cobham. Company trading performance good but the price remains resolutely stuck either side of £11. I'm a 'buy-and-hold' merchant, but I can't help feeling that the trick here would have been to buy every time it went under £10 and sell at £12! Any road up, reason for the post is that I read in the weekend press that MOD getting pretty p*ssed off with BAE in general and this might be reflected in Hoon's (potentially last?) decision to swing the RAF tanker refuelling contract to EADS - a consortium of which Cobham is a member. Watch out for any announcements; could give this sleepy share a little lift (I hope!).
