Poor results, but who knows if they can get 10 or 15% knocked off their rents and better weather over December than last year, they could make decent profits. Since the share price was priced as if admin was on the cards, it doesn't surprise me to see a little gain.

"..Embattled retailer Clinton Cards has said plunging consumer confidence and a lack of shoppers on the high street pushed it to a £10.7 million loss last year.
The greetings card and gift chain, which owns 596 Clintons stores and 127 Birthdays stores, fell into the red in the year to July 31 after recording pre-tax profits of £11.97 million the previous year..."

Share price holding up remarkably well, at the moment.

I would suggest the results look a tad alarming - but remember this is retrospective and hence the drop over past year.

Increase in borrowing of £12m, increase in liabilities of £20m.

Unless there is a rabbit in the hat it looks like curtains as the previous years seeming good work on debt reduction is beginning to unravel..

Horrible results.

If anyone bought in thinking there was a pleasant surprise driving the share price up over the past week, they've been had. (The sensible ones sold yesterday when they saw that negative candle taking shape)

The Independent last night had this to say about one competitor:

Could be interesting.
See a lot aof large selling at low prices on alot of small caps which sends the shares really low.
Think last year was bad due to snow and sales decline only 3.5%!
Think it will be business as usual come xmas i,m in today !
Lets face it people dont mind spending a few £ here and there.
Look at Costa and there coffee!
Good luck to all that gamble !

Also it's becoming more popular to send ecards at Xmas or donate and not send.

The problem they also have is that having dropped prices ( and quality) on a lot of the products they were selling, to lower price, they suffer turnover drops.

Go into town/city and have a look at what they sell. Also these shops arent busy. Take a look at the previous set of figures and forecasts on digital look. Purse strings tighten, do people want to spend £4 on a card, when they can get one cheaper from a card warehouse or supermarket.

IMHO.

I haven't bought any yet, but "if" the banks have agreed to renew their loan facility - why would the new CEO join if they had not - and the possibility of some sort of CVA, they could be a steal at this price. Remember 3-years ago when the share price dropped to this level they rebounded to over 50p. Despite what people say about the supermarkets, moonpig and all the other competition I'm not sure they are actually losing any market share. Anyone know for sure if they are? Facts no guessing please.

I always walk past my local shop and its nearly always dead - card factory always has more customers...the new CEO has his work cut out imo but its worth keeping this on your watch list.
