I take your point but I really don't see emerson letting go of chloride now. I may be wrong but I'm hanging on in there for the time being. Mind you I'm always rubbish at selling. I was lucky enough to have Cadbury and now Chloride. Things happen in threes so I have a good holding in BG. perennial talk of a bid there and a safe place for cash anyhow.

i'm all out....can't stand the stress and waiting.....if i miss another rise so be it but my profit is booked....been a great journey and made close to a 100k since i started last may

another reason reading the offer from emerson, i dont like the tone they are using....seem to want to rush the chloride board into a quick answers [ by the monday ] .....unfair in my opinion.....if emerson dont get the yes , will they take a dim view and pull the offer.....i have to much to loose if that happened suddenly.

i have placed orders at fridays prices @ 200 in case the worst should happen

I've bought into the Geiger Counter Investment Trust (GCL) which, for me, seems to be a less high-risk way of playing the Uranium Mining Sector. I also discovered an ETF called "NUKE" today, run by ETF securities, which holds shares in a plethora of companies across the Nuclear Sector.

The is one company I've found out about recently that I've not yet bought into (hence don't want to reveal all here). The bulletin board is as quiet as the grave (good sign it's under the mobs radar right now), but I will give you a clue. Polo have a holding, and it's NOT Extract/Rossing South. The shares are listed on both AIM and the TSX (hence ISAable). That's it for now. ;)

Have a look at Crystal Amber. It's a small activist fund that has about 10% of its investment in Chloride. There are others too, including Delta which is also facing a take-over.
I would have expected the price to go up about 4% on yesterday's news but in fact it rose just .23%.
It may be another way to get exposure to Chloride which so far doesn't seem to have been noticed by the market.

Jimbo, I too like Uranium stocks, finding the right one is the tricky bit...(Polo?)

Regarding Sterling, is it not best to look for quality stocks that will benefit from weak pound (i.e. revenues are coming in as US$ (I have HNT and NBPO for e.g.)

Regarding Chloride, this is also relevant see posts 728 and 729(good input from C2i and FishbourneTrader) - this bid will be paid for by a US company, if the exhange rate is more favourable to them, they can pay more at a lower cost, and we will realise a higher price in sterling.

For research - see DGO for a recent similar takeover story (If i re-call the bid came in @455p)

I am going to hold for the time being.

The Markets: Hopefully panic the irrational holders out of some good stocks, and create an excellent buying opportunity if any of them are stocks I own shares in.

Sterling: I think a hung parliament is already priced in to a certain degree. The key action will probably occur with regards to the outcome of who partners with whom (hope I got my who and whom the right way around). I will shortly be going short of Sterling to a small degree though.

In terms of what to buy, I'd rather have my money in good Gold mining stocks and Uranium than a Sterling-denominated savings account right now!

remember we have an election in a few days

what will that do to the markets? and sterling? at 270p and the pound at $1.35 or lower emerson are going to smile

i have owned chloride for about 14 months and today am up 100%
also own emerson and up 32%.........if i sell both or either

the election is a worry and i am thinking of a major liquidation of my uk portfolio and and a switch into .................what?

jange, Would you buy a car and offer the salesman the price on the screen?

The price on the screen was just above £2 yesterday. Don't get greedy boys :-)

Still think there is a little more to come myself , but have taken the precaution of moving limit stop close to the share price .Good luck to all those still holding CHLD .

Evening all. Top-sliced at 297.5 - would have seemed rude not to. What a lovely feeling, though, seeing one's original capital still in play. CHLD really has turned out to be an outstanding investment. Good luck to all still holding - bring it on!

it seems a little perverse that opinion seems to point to Emmmerson underbidding mainly because of the $ strength
In other words the business is worth more because of the total ineptitude and incompetence of Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling et al rather than to the more prosaic recent performance of the Chloride business itself

Still the price seems well underpinned but I expect Emmerson to drag this out and test the long term metal of the UK institutions (who in the end will just take the money)

i will hold tight ......i think Emerson want this badly enough to offer more in the days / weeks to come.....around 340 ish might do it ......where can they turn ? chloride is a niche co in a niche market and Emerson can't pick and choose like in other market segments.....it will be a great bolt on buy for them..... they have vaults full of dollars too, making a bill $'s every year so putting the cash together no worries

jange, it's called keeping your cards close to your chest. The Emerson BOD must have known 275p would be rejected. It's the opening salvo in a great game.

Why did emerson only bid 275p just slightly more than their last effort? They must have known that Chloride would reject such a bid. The market looks at around 300p which would make much more sense. I have always liked this somewhat boring company but the management is first class and what a lovely touch this share has been.

Chloride has an excelent management team, I do not think that they are being greedy in expecting a potential bidder to pay more than the present offer, Long term I expect this share to be worth at least £4 without an offer, so Either way I am in to the end.
