19/8/2002 00:43 | antizenncs, I would agree with you that maybe 95% of crop circles are clearly man made and around 3% of caused by natural phenomena. The remaining 2% are also man made. Just because an obvious explanation cannot be found doesn't mean there isn't one. This remaining 2% may be due to the work of clever students making them, incompetant scientists examining them or blown up press speculation. However, if your theory about "radionuclides in soil samples" has even a very remote chance of being true, can you at least provide us with a web link to it? | insolvent
18/8/2002 18:23 | Krakow They have just got tired of the conspiracy moon landing nonsense so another thread has to be made up. Think of it as a cultural thing, a sort of modern religion. Most modern religions have been discredited through education/science (eg. natural selection), corruption or an antiquated image so UFOs/crop circles is a natural progression. Insolvent You have forgot the obvious reason, the universe is just so big, and intelligent life is so rare, that it is simply difficult to travel or communicate across the distances. There are two other possibilities, civilisations advance beyond that of mere physical existance (2001 style), possibly to a higher level of conciousness, suppose you could view this as the religious equivalent of the afterworld. I am sure such civilisations would not find it difficult to communicate if they wanted or could do, there are fundamental ways this can be done (base 2 signal, primes, pi, e from a remote radio source) making circles in a field of corn which can obviously be interpreted as terrestial fraud is not one of them! there is a deliberate rule not to interfere with less developed civilisations to avoid the sort of catastrophe which occurs in such circumstances. | cassiopeia
18/8/2002 17:41 | Ah wonderwoman, a very telling post there shows a deep understanding somewhere. Point taken kracow, people mis-interpret information, for all we know your interpretation may be incorrect. Surely, until you can dimiss ALL the formations as either man-made or natural then there is a debate to be had. The*Operator - interesting- I, too, have attempt to replicate crop circle - but alas, was neither clever effort nor had the skill to create one (as some allude to) but I have acquaintances who like kracow (no disrespect intented) have changed their minds as to the origins of such phenomena after having been at one of these crop cirlce making rituals | antizenncs
18/8/2002 14:49 | Antizenncs, I don't allow the possibility of alien abduction - my last comment was sarcasm. Alien abductees are deluded. The whole debate about these kinds of issues is not about crop circles, aliens etc. It is an issue of psychological and behavioral questions concerning, for instance, why some people think they've seen a ghost, why some people believe in supernatural gods, and on the other hand why some people will never see a ghost or think they've been for a ride on a space ship from another planet. We all have access to the same information but, like the bishops in the Middle Ages, some people mis-interpret it. K. | krakow
18/8/2002 14:28 | Of course I know kracow, so you will allow the possibilities of abduction but will not entertain a debate on crop cirlces. This is a strange position to me. As is case with just about anything the "fad of the day", look at management book, financial scams etc etc, you can if you're so inclined and clever enough make money out of peoples' guillibility. It is not an arguement to dismiss it this way. As for the sightings, radio five live's data is at odds with just about all other data, which says the complete opposite. Then again, 5live is notorious for "getting it wrong" with respect. Ridicule and contempt is the easy way out imo, and to me unscientific. It is like the conspiracy of the moon landings, which as of today there is no scientific "fact" which support such a possible hoax. Those who throw the crosshairs, shadows, simillar landscapes, no stars, blast craters etc, are unable to substantiate their claims. But does that mean they are wrong?, now the weight of evidence is very much against them. The weight of evidence for hoaxes etc, is high but not total. Does it make it right?, well no not yet and until the 2% can be proven to be man-made or natural, then the debate is valid and not facile. You have your opinion but you should ridicule those who have an opposing view, they may just be right. | antizenncs
18/8/2002 13:00 | Hardly a theory of mine Insolvent, the info is all in the thread leader. Just need to read the sites thoroughly. I will try to find it again though. Personally I am not sure about the 2% being man made, perhaps natural phenomena yes (yet to be discovered etc.) but what I do have a problem with is they easy way out to the discussion which is ridicule and contempt. | antizenncs
