Today was another dull day for CNA but the volume is still respectable and that's not down to day traders because there is nothing to be had. I think there are buyers down here who are willing to accumulate at these levels.

I think that drive is more useful than intelligence. Most people I know who have PhDs (and I know loads given the line of work I do) are just normal. There is not a lot of difference between a Graduate and a Dr - just three years in the lab.

Scientists get a bad press as they are seen as weird - Mary Shelly and Einstein have a lot to answer for. Sure there are some people I have met who shouldn’t be allowed out of the lab but most are friendly and engaging and able to communicate. FWIW I always just use my first name for work/social - the only time I use Dr is here, and this avatar is ancient.

Anyway have a nice weekend all, I’m off to see some fireworks.

Careful, over the years I've known some people that were high school or secondary drop outs gone on to make millions. It's not what you know, it's who you know and how you use that knowledge but this biggest thing is want and need.

No amount of school education makes you wealthy, it's how you use it and what you're naturally good at.

Skinny I love that emoji thing you do. I'm not very tech minded but I'd love to know how to do it . I'd like to use it on "er in doors" every time she sends me a mindless text about bills, weekend agendas and just stuff that bores the cr@p out of me.Have a good weekend all.

There does not seem to be a strong correlation between academic attainment and making money.
Richard Branson is dyslexic and admits to being weak with numbers.
Henry Ford had no formal education and Henry Royce the engineering genius, left school at 9.
There are numerous examples of multi millionaires who could barely read.

The stereotypical Ph.D. is invariable an uber introvert who has trouble with people. Lock themselves away and swat like nerds.

Guess there are different sorts of intelligence.

Dr B, having a Ph.D. doesn't make you smarter just more knowledgeable in your subject. After all, I've been working in the IT field since I was a whipper snapper in some form or other, but it makes me no smarter than you just more knowledgeable in my subject.

However, I will agree that it doesn't make either of us more intelligent when it comes to investing as the big house much like Casinos are controlling all the cards. But I do keep seeing the same person jump from share to share shouting the same stuff over and over doesn't help anything. Portside was on Tesco shouting the same stuff. Not sure who he is or his intentions, but I usually ignore him because from what he says and what happens doesn't always play out as he says.

Actually I have a Ph.D in analytical biochemistry - with about 20 publications. Can tell you all you need to know about LCMS and secondary messengers.

Doesn't make me a better investor of course, but it does make me smarter than someone who cant write properly, varies between lower case and Caps and rants/repeats several posts at a time and communicates so poorly and lies so often that you think they have underlying mental health issues and that this forum is part of care in the community.

Fact.

Unfortunately our resident moron spreads his “facts” and other bile across many of the threads I’m on. Seems to think that if you say fact and write in CAPS then it gives his argument more weight, though in reality in just makes it more like a child writing in crayon.

Am hoping we are near or at the bottom here. I have recently bought these BT and GSK almost solely based on yield hoping that at least 2/3 will not cut in the future. Obviously I don’t have a crystal ball, but if the govt review ends up being as soft as it is on FOBTs then we should be OK

Kodi? You do know that your ISP will monitor your url's and usage right? But it's true nothing may come of it, or you get a letter or who knows. Its guess too popular to go after the individual users and blocking the source is probably Skys tactics. But hey if someone provides me with a good product then I'm willing to pay for it. I just go for the lower end packages and demand half price for the year, rinse and repeat.

You lot have fogotten what Conn and CNA are doing to slowly get out of "political" businesses......try this.

REstore brings key capabilities in asset optimisation, one of the five strategic pillars of Centrica Business, and is complementary to those provided by Centrica's previous acquisitions of Panoramic Power, Neas Energy and ENER-G Cogen. The acquisition will also further expand Centrica's geographic footprint into new European markets.
