Price is relative and you could well get in lower. In this market nobody can predict the bottom with any degree of certainty.

Good results and good company but I agree with the Motley fool article that states it's a good buy lower down due to Castings being a cyclical company.

I like all of the positive comments.
The Cookemeister continues to rule Ok.

I could be wrong but I think this may have been a record H1 in terms of EPS performance at 17.44p. As stated in the narrative, volume increases ran ahead of revenue due to softness in raw material prices.

I'm one of them also! Worth noting that RSP's willing to pay well above Bid to get stock. ie 455.8 as opposed to 451.75 so there is underlying support.

If you read the results from the bottom you won't miss the bit where the pension fund are paying back some of the surplus to the company. Note the £5.7m receivables line in the B/S.

Agreed.

I am getting quite worn out keeping up with the avalanche of posts on this board today.

P.S in some respects the author's logic behind cyclical nature of the business fails to nderstand WHY profits took hits in prior year and is thus flawed. DYOR and all that, but as far as I am concerned this stock is one you would buy if the stock market was dus to close for 5 years (and you could thus not sell it for the duration).

Article here:-

I don't agree with the conclusion on price / value (£5.75 is my view) but the rest of the article is fair IMO.

Brian Cooke in a nutshell.
He should be bottled for posterity to give lessons to some of the overpaid under tallented grandees of the FTSE 100.

Castings plc will be holding its Annual General Meeting this afternoon and at the meeting the Chairman, Brian Cooke, will make the following statement.

Following the statement in the Chairman`s report in June, it is pleasing to report sales volumes are still improving in particular in the commercial vehicle sector. We see no change in the foreseeable future and provided there is no adverse economic and world news it is expected profits will improve on last year's level.

B.J.Cooke, Chairman

Very solid company this -tends to under promise and over deliver. I like the Chairman's matter of fact low key style.Shares look good for a fiver.

There is alot of operational gearing in the business based on fixed overheads.
I'm happy to hold -may add on any dips.

I have generally found the quieter the board the better the company prospects!
Cooke and his team get about their business in a very solid way.

Indeed.

Nice bit of volume to go with price rise. Not a well covered stock analyst wise, but certainly a stalwart historically with a good record of doing the right things.

VERY strong balance sheet and surplus on pension, many companies could learn from that.

I reckon a recovery in market would gear up well here and I think the forward PERs are better than they look given the cash position and lack of debt.

Nice and quiet here of late too – so a lack of interest of late giving the price weakness I think.

Well done to Castings. The market was expecting worse so the shares rose. Very modest rating.
