21/4/2016 16:04 | Thanks Graham, very helpful. We've just started doing cruises a year ago, and we've done four this last year with various lines. All great apart from Thompson who we are in the process of suing. So i think we'll be doing four a year until we get fed up with them, so looks like the returns will be phenomenal then! Plenty of cheap Costa ones we haven't tried yet. So for £400pp for a week we'd get $100 of free booze. Even p&o are selling very cheap cruises these days, so plenty of opportunities. Haven't looked at all whether this is worth investing in as an investment (i.e. forgetting about the perks) atm. One concern as an investment is that if Isis managed to get on board any cruise ship ... but maybe that will be the time to buy. | pierre oreilly
21/4/2016 15:41 | You have to hold 100 shares. You have to provide proof of ownership. What is acceptable is clearly outlined on the Carnival website under Investor Relations/Shareholde Well worth it, especially for smaller shareholders as it dramatically increases the percentage return on the shares - as well as being tax free! Procedure is very simple, just send an email to the appropriate cruise line (after you've paid your final balance) with the proof of ownership and your booking reference and your booking will be updated with the additional onboard credit. Do one cruise a year = good return Do two or more cruises as year = excellent return (or phenomenal return) That's in monetary terms, but in terms of enhancing your cruise experience as you have "free" onboard spending, it can't be faulted! Been using it for the past few years. Only complaint is that the "benefit" reduces for longer cruises (such as world cruises, but even for a cruise longer than 14 nights) as you don't get a higher onboard spend for cruises longer than a couple of weeks. Now sorted that problem by doing two or three shorter cruises a year!!! | grahamburn
21/4/2016 15:20 | Anyone know if the perks are easy to get hold of if held in a nominee? Wouldn't mind the odd fifty/hundred quid credit each cruise ... but only if it's no hassle getting it. About £3.8k to qualify for the perks .. is that right? | pierre oreilly
31/3/2016 08:13 | ) - First quarter results from Carnival made a splash as sales and earnings beat expectations and the cruise operator ran up higher guidance for the full year. As well as lower fuel prices, advance bookings for the rest of 2016 were said to be "well ahead" of the prior year at "slightly higher" prices. First-quarter net revenue yields were up 5.7% in constant currencies, beating the 3.5%-4.5% guidance issued in December, while adjusted earnings per share of $0.39 were almost double the $0.20 in the same period last year. Earnings after unrealized losses on fuel derivatives and other net costs were $0.21 per share. Net cruise costs rose more slowly than predicted, up 1.6% on the prior year versus the 2.5%-3.5% guidance. For the full year, the Miami-based group raised its adjusted earnings per share guidance to a range of $3.20-$3.40, compared to December's guidance of $3.10 to $3.40. Chief executive officer Arnold Donald said the company had reaped the benefit of "creating increased demand for our brands" through improvements in the guest experience coupled with "increasingly effective marketing and communication". Since January, booking volumes for the remainder of the year are running ahead of last year's historically high levels at higher prices, he added. "The lower levels of inventory remaining for sale for the balance of the year, particularly for our peak summer period, positions our brands well for continued revenue yield growth and builds confidence in our full year earnings forecast." | broadwood

22/12/2015 11:13 | This was only our second cruise in eight years. But there are plenty of multiple cruisers. One couple on our dinner table were on their 47th - and had booked two more for next year. I'm thinking customer satisfaction levels are very high. You soon notice the difference when confronted once again with UK reality. | broadwood
