Twice recently whilst visiting the local Cambridge Corn Exchange concert venue, I've noted how busy the adjacent carluccios appears - both before and afterwards!

Current market sentiment, new minimum wage legislation, general media credit crunch 'overload' and less disposable money in Joe Public's wallet may, IMHO, drive down the share price to 30-35p over the next month or so. Still, IMO, this is a well run company that will come out, relative to the competition, stronger and more secure. Hang in (if you can afford to) and buy in (again if you can afford to) over the next few months. I hold 125K shares and will add in due course. Good luck to all.

Sp's certainly weakening. Let's hope that they have a strong Xmas quarter.

something to do with latest change in minimum wage...

yup I think the tip thing also plays into it as companies can no longer pay less than the minimum wage on account of staff getting tips... and companies can't keep any of the tips... or something like that

So as I recall it hits Carluccio hard... we shall see...

Excuse my ignorance but what is the change? Is it the old debate about tips?

haven't seen any of those Slap, but there are quite a few modest sells creeping into the 60s today.

space,

It's like shoppers trading down from Marks & Spencer to Iceland.

People wanna eat out....but who wants to pay £50 a head for poncy nosh when you can get filled up and enjoy the dining out experience for a fraction of the cost.

The market sees that takings at restaurants are down generally....but if you offer a value proposition joe public will take you up on it.

jazza,

I reckon that CARL have a successful recipe with which to weather the difficult times ahead. Debt-free, sensibly priced and oozing VFM - share price could slip further, but it's beginning to look good value IMHO.

With the Daily Mail running a front-page recently announcing that food prices are falling back....and with share prices in the gutter, is it not worth revisiting the likes of CARL & CPH...personally I'm more likely to eat at £12 a head than previously and much less likely to eat (elsewhere) at up to £50 a head.

Are people trading down or just not eating out full stop.....personally see some mileage in the former...which makes the mcap/share price look a little silly.

Comments?

Esentially a well run company whose brand and product will see it through hard trading times. However why would any investor pick a sector where input costs are rising and output ie turnover is threatended by a recession? Ok for thise in the company - the Board won't be sacked and good staff will keep their jobs, but not for me right now...as though I had a choice! Good luck all holders.

HI
i suspect that market and high cost in fresh food and gas have affected carluccio's profitability but with no debit in this climate they will have the best opportunity to pick site with less competition.
on carluccio's merit the share are cheep but with this economical situation how knows. I will buy little more as I am confident in the company ability to reduce damage in this climate and positioning well for the future.

A really solid TS - the words 'debt free' have tremendous appeal. Looks like one of the better eat-out businesses to be in.

Thanks Lomax - the company certainly appear consistent in venue selection. What we need now is good performance news in order to restore sanity to the share price

They have a prime spot at the Quakers Friars end of Bristol's new Cabot Circus development, which opened last week. They are still fitting out and are scheduled to be open by October 20th - they should do well there. Personally I think that the share price fall has been overdone, so I picked up a few more today.

SP echoing general market malaise & that of the frizzy haired, misty eyed oap sad sack Antonio himself. I sincerly hope that he gets properly sorted out (allegedly) in rehab and refrains from (allegedly) pressing his chest onto very sharp objects in the future after an (allegedly) drunken row with his wife.

I'm totally indifferent tbh, my wife loves a trip to Carluccio's - a real shame to see that he now (allegedly) gleans no joy whatsoever from his previous hard endevours or well deserved OBE.

cheer up Antonio me old son, it could be worse.. you could be one of Lehman Brother's investment management "specialists".. think on that & your family next time you're rolling out the pasta and eyeing up the scotch / knife block.

next stop 75p ?
