06/7/2016 07:40 | The important thing is that the business under the bonnet is performing well. The share price will follow in due course. Carillion have a very long record of raising the dividend each year and as long as they continue to do so we will all be fine here. | rcturner2
06/7/2016 07:35 | Apad - thanks for taking the trouble to find and post that. SP flying this am, but such a long way to go! | m4rtinu
06/7/2016 07:19 | Ah! It's just another word for borrowing (but not from a bank). They're very good at borrowing. From 2012: "Committed bank facilities and private placements The Group has committed bank facilities and private placement funds of £1,062.5 million. This comprises a £737.5 million syndicated five-year facility maturing in March 2016 and a £15.0 million 364-day facility, together with borrowing of £310 million under three private placements: a £100 million placement that commenced in August 2011, comprising a £49 million seven-year facility at 4.38 per cent per annum and a £51 million 10-year facility at 5.1 per cent per annum; a £35 million placement in August 2012 split equally between seven year and 10-year notes at 3.6 per cent and 4.2 per cent respectively; and a £175 million US dollar denominated placement that commenced in November 2012, comprising a £15 million five-year facility at 3.5 per cent per annum, a £50 million seven-year facility at 4.3 per cent per annum, a £88 million 10-year facility at 4.9 per cent per annum and a £22 million 12-year facility at 5.0 per cent per annum." apad | apad
06/7/2016 07:07 | H. I understand the $/£ issue. What I don't know is what the placement was for and what was placed. apad | apad
06/7/2016 07:00 | Yes m4rtinu, in current times you would want USD assets if GBP is your reporting currency. | haywards26
06/7/2016 06:58 | GFRD performance is the larger HB side I'm guessing?. | essentialinvestor
06/7/2016 06:57 | Haywards - getting more expensive by the day! | m4rtinu
06/7/2016 06:56 | Apad - thanks to you too. I have just had a look at relative share price falls since 23/6: FT Mid cap -10% CLLN -20% BBY -20% KIE -25% IRV -28% GFRD - 37% | m4rtinu
06/7/2016 06:52 | The privately placement is a USD liability, which when revalued to GBP for the financials will increase in GBP value due to the weakening exchange rate. | haywards26
06/7/2016 06:47 | Dividend now about 8.55%. | lab305
06/7/2016 06:45 | Baticle - thanks. Also seems like they have saved "new contract" announcements for trading update, rather than making separate announcements as in past. Though may depend on value. | m4rtinu
06/7/2016 06:43 | CLLN has paid out £94.7m more in dividends to shareholders than it has generated in free cash flow over the last six years. "In 2010, 2011 and 2014, free cash flow has been sufficient to cover the cash cost of dividends. In other years there has been a shortfall. However, help has been at hand as Carillion has been able to sell its equity stakes in PPPs (Public Private Partnership projects) which has brought in £311m of cash to help pay a rising dividend." It still has some PPP equity to sell, but borrowing could well be part of covering the rising divi (although this has not been rising so fast recently). I don't understand the private placement comment. apad | apad
06/7/2016 06:40 | I would assume it's just cash flow jargon given it's been budgeted into the expectations. The weak pound V dollar may cost them a few quid though. | baticle
06/7/2016 06:29 | I'm happy with that update too. Just one comment I would appreciate views on: "As previously indicated, net borrowing at 30 June 2016 will increase and is expected to be in the region of £295 million, which reflects a number of temporary factors, including the effect of paying the final dividend for 2015 in June 2016, coupled with the effect of the recent adverse movement in the US$ exchange rate on the Group's US private placement borrowing." Borrowing, albeit temporary, to pay dividend. Do others read it that way? | m4rtinu
06/7/2016 06:23 | It's easy and quite Logical to make assumptions on the state of the construction industry in the UK given all the negative information out there, but never the less this is a good update and would suggest this has been oversold. I've been able to increase my holding here at these Low prices,Hopefully my decision will be justified and We'll see a reverse trend in the Share price. | baticle
06/7/2016 06:20 | Most shorted: OCADO GROUP PLC 21.4% CARILLION PLC 18.9% WM MORRISON SUPERMARKETS 15.8% SAINSBURY (J) PLC 9.7% MITIE GROUP PLC 9.2% Based on this 'clean' rns it doesn't look as if CLLN should be in this gang. apad | apad
06/7/2016 06:09 | I'm pleased with that statement, good revenue visibility going forward. | rcturner2
05/7/2016 20:06 | Just had a look at CLLN revenue from 2015. UK construction revenue = £1.1bn out of a total revenue for all sectors of business of £4.6bn. So quite a lot of risk when UK economy suffers. Three property funds closing does not bode well either. Have made good money from this share in the past (incl divi). But am well down on current holding! | m4rtinu
05/7/2016 16:54 | Only a trading statement - NOT results. | grahamburn
05/7/2016 16:49 | Results tomorrow then? I think there will be reference to an uncertain future which will not help. | gswredland
05/7/2016 15:32 | Rcturner2 Yes the big shorting put me off, the market has never really liked construction but I guess the same with oils and miners which have picked back up, fun and games. | wipo1
05/7/2016 15:29 | Some clues tomorrow? | m4rtinu
05/7/2016 14:40 | Yes. Just waiting and watching at the moment. So weak... | zcaprd7
05/7/2016 14:07 | Anyone still want to come on here and reckon they know more than hedge funds? | rcturner2 |
