A 748 trade showing on the PLUS market (tree.gb on ADVFN) - more or less 750(!!), tenapen. But some larger sells just gone through on the main market.

or could they have heard a whisper that the interims due anytime are poor ?.

Last year TREE issued a 'Half yearly Report' on the 15 Jan so we could be on for news next week.

If interest returns in TREE it would be good for them to start writing their quarterly news letter.

After watching the buys roll in, i decided to top up and buy £1k worth. I put the order this AM at 72.75p not filled so upped the bid to 73.5p (showing 73p to buy) and still Jarvis are not filling it !.

5 buys after i put in my order, all completed at a lower price than my 73.5p and yet my order was not filled. crazy.

Waldron, thanks for keeping a timber thread going. Maybe not as exiting as lots of the stocks out there but there are some good opportunities to make a steady return imo.
I think there will be some strong gains to be made in the right sectors in forestry, particularly in the reneawble energy wood markets, biomass, wood chips, charcoal. Alot of this is being flagged up by the United Nations in their report on the foestry /timber industry. They produce an annual report which is quite heavy going but it certainly highlights the change going on in timber makets.
Ive had alook around a few other places to get some info. and came up with a couple of are quite a good research based site, hope its ok to put it up here.

Living' Buildings in Germany Are Newest Take on Tree Houses

Sept. 18 (Bloomberg) -- Tree houses, which many a Westerner played in as youngsters, are getting a modern update from Germany: Willows are being grown to form the root of "live" buildings.

Rows of willow trees growing nine meters high (30 feet) will form a square-shaped tower after a bridge was completed earlier using the same technique. The trees, bended and molded, will be intertwined with cables and metal supports, making them strong enough to eventually support people and furniture, said Ferdinand Ludwig, designer of the "living" structure.

"This technique could be applied to building smaller structures like cafes, cottages and bridges," Ludwig, an architect studying how live trees can be used in construction at the University of Stuttgart, said Sept. 16 in an interview.

To construct the tower, saplings were planted surrounding a steel structure and branches then grafted to the upright trees. Several more years of growth are needed until the shoots are at least 6 centimeters (2.4 inches) thick and the metal frame can be dismantled. The structure will last about 30 years, he said.

Construction costs for a living building are comparable to traditional materials when landscaping expenses are taken into account, Ludwig said, adding that town planners in Germany have already contacted him wanting their own tree buildings. The tower and bridge are on the university's research grounds in Wald, south of Stuttgart near the Swiss border.

Living buildings should appeal to people because they are less disruptive to plant and animal life than traditional construction, leaving the ground largely undisturbed and providing a home for birds, Ludwig said.

Willows' deep roots "work well" for the technique though plane trees can also be used, he said.

Walk Across 'Live' Bridge

The University's botanical construction research group will open to the public tomorrow and visitors can walk across a bridge made with live arboreal supports and view the tower.

Unlike the tree houses of youth, Ludwig's willow structures take as long as 10 years to grow, almost an entire childhood.

"This is one of the disadvantages of this technique," he said. "Working with the trees can be very slow."

What are the advantages? The "living" structures help clean the air and make cities greener, Ludwig said.

The environmentally friendly buildings are well-suited to "megacities" and regions lacking parks and green space.

Urban areas create their own microclimates and are as much as 6 degrees Celsius (11 degrees Fahrenheit) warmer than surrounding regions while cars, traffic and volume of people creates dust and soot.

Using more trees as live buildings would minimize the "heat island" effect of cities and help fight pollution, Ludwig said.
