05/1/2005 17:12 | Peter, I had certainly heard rumours about the airport - but then Sofia is the one of the greatest places in the world for rumours. I did hear last year that Bulgaria had won the contract for international air traffic control in the region. Have asked my colleagues in Sofia if they have any current news and will post anything I think might be interesting. | ratters
05/1/2005 17:05 | A new passenger termianl due to open Aug 2005 "Sofia Airport is part of Bulgaria's ambitious plan for infrastructure overhaul. In August next year, a new passenger terminal is due to open. It was recently announced that air travelers would also be able to enjoy an ultramodern artificial lake complex, planted with trees, exotic flowers and specially designed decorative lighting. An allotment of EUR 6 M is planned under the ISPA program for the garden construction." | peterstilgoe
05/1/2005 16:53 | I will dig out details about the work going on at Sofia, I think your wrong ratty, I think its pretty major work going on. Channel 4 @ 20:00 tonight - 20 top places to invest in the sun, think Bulgaria is number 6. See my eastern european property thread for more info about Bulgaria etc | peterstilgoe
05/1/2005 16:50 | A couple of comments. Existing Airport at Sofia has already been restructured once. Doubt anything more radical will be commenced until EU funds available. Company's rns refers to having acquired six plots "on the ring road" close to Airport. I have never actually seen a "ring road". Perhaps someone can enlighten me? I noted that an earlier contibutor referred to the decline in Bulgarian population. I think that could have been a problem in the future - but doubt that it will be if they are permitted to join EU in 07 - there will be a certain amount of return migration and a very large amount of Turks who would be very happy to make up the numbers. Anyway, don't think any of that makes any difference to the company's prospects. These are surely very good in the longer term. | ratters
05/1/2005 16:22 | Sofia airport is expanding in a big way at the moment, and bourgas is going to follow suit, I was queuing outside sofia airport a few weeks ago waiting to get in to collect my bags, but this will be long gone in the next year. | peterstilgoe

05/1/2005 12:05 | dwelsh... The potential for rises is there, but the price of property has already gone up at a very large rate over the last 2-3-4 years. The indiginous population isnt in a position to buy much, so the underlying position may not be as strong as elsewhere. You also have to remember that the population is in decline. And, to be honest, the coast, whilst ok, is not as good as Croatia or Spain or a number of other places, so it will always be priced at a discount to those locations, if looked at as a summer vacation. The ski side could be better, but prices there have tripled in the last few years and are looking toppish at the moment. If BPD is now trading at nearly twice its asset value, then it looks fully value for a while. | fft
05/1/2005 11:19 | Can't believe the rise in this...what the hell is going on here!!?? | j bravo esq
05/1/2005 11:11 | Want to know of a better value stock.. Try Lennox holdings.. LNX imports UK goods to Spanish expats... profitable, low P/E, recently floated, expansion propsects, almost certain growth for next few years, high divident, good cash flow... If anything should have doubled since floation it is this... not a concept but a busines that has been around for five years or so.. far better EU play... (all expats moving to Spain)... at around 50p this will go to £1 then possibly higher... While Bulgarian thing is a long-term story with many potential pitfalls.. The slapster | slapdash
