16/1/2017 14:10 | What's the latest rumour floating about Jenny. There are always rumours, what is going on at head office? | excell1
16/1/2017 14:08 | Hi JT. Yes I know all that. It's a bit more complicated. I had one installed following an engineer visit for a line fault a couple of months ago, as it was now "policy". They are being automatically installed everywhere access is gained. The new NTE 5C is, amongst other things, supposed to be more "resistant to corrosion". This is what I need as the consumer plate on my old NTE 5 failed for environmental reasons. I had fixed this myself with the purchase of a new consumer plate. Trouble is, my 'new' NTE 5C is now playing up after just a couple of months, I had the older NTE5 for decades! Even at the Test socket it was very noisy and crackly - I ended up accidentally calling the 999 emergency operator. That's 'noisy'! None of the electrical contact areas on the new NTE 5C are gold flashed and mine seemed to have oxidation on the splines in the consumer socket. I had to clean my consumer plate up myself to get back into operation. Problem first caused broadband to fail. I can't use my purchased replacement consumer plate as it is not compatible with the new unit. This new NTE 5C looks to me as if it may be going to be high maintenance, exactly the opposite of what was expected. Obviously I don't know if this is just a one off but, if it isn't... | pvb
16/1/2017 13:30 | Yes once you get on one of those lists its a nightmare especially for older people.,they really are scum. | tim 3
16/1/2017 13:20 | Sounds good Dipso. Elderly sister called me at 8.00 this morning saying she had call from BT saying problem with broadband. She has phone line, no computers, router etc. I told her "scam" but astounded the law/BT allows such large scale con merchants to use their network for their evil nastiness. | dr_smith
16/1/2017 12:59 | Hi pvb. I do work for Openreach but seldom have much to do with NTE 5Cs (although I'm sure I have some kicking around on the van somewhere). Essentially, they mark the point at which O/R's responsibility ends and the customer's (End User's) responsibility starts. The two visible screws once undone, allow the bottom half of the front plate to be removed. That bottom half should have the ongoing wiring to the customer's internal premises extension wiring connected. Once removed, you will be able to see a socket into which a phone can be plugged into (larger part that remains). If the symptom you're experiencing is only apparent with the internal wiring connected, there's every chance the problem will be in the premesis (not O/R's problem - and if proven during an O/R engineering visit as such, you're likely to be charged). However, if the problem, such as noise or ring-trip, is still apparent at the socket revealled when the bottom plate has been removed, it's likely to be a problem with the line en-route to the house. This is usually O/R's responsibility to repair, but not necessarily. For instance, it is (or was) my understanding that the home owner could still be liable for charges if the problem was due to over-head wires damaged by trees on the customer's premises - or, if the cable comes to a house underground, if you've cut through the cable whilst digging in a fence post (for instance) you could get charged in those circumstances too. Please don't take any of the above as gosple - it's a while since I did this sort of work and you'd be well advice to seek clarification when reporting a fault. Hope this helps, JT. | jenny tulwought
16/1/2017 12:56 | News on BBC website "BT has developed a breakthrough service called BT Call Protect to help customers avoid nuisance calls on their landline by diverting a whopping 30 million calls a week to junk voicemail." This is a free service. I think it could give a big boost to customer numbers. | dipso

15/1/2017 14:39 | Calling Jenny Tulwought... Do you work in a part of BT/Openreach that deals with the local loop? Do you know anything about the roll out of the new NTE5 C socket to consumer premises? If not, can you suggest how I could best approach BT management in connection with this. I am not a BT customer. TIA | pvb

11/1/2017 10:54 | Broker tips: BT, Thomas Cook, TUI, Burberry Wed, 11 January 2017 (ShareCast News) - BT Group got a lift on Wednesday as Morgan Stanley upgraded its stance on the stock to 'overweight' from 'equalweight' and bumped up the price target to 490p from 450p. It noted the shares have underperformed the FTSE 100 by a disappointing 41 percentage points in the last 12 months, providing a good entry opportunity. The bank pointed to three reasons why it expects a better share price performance this year: better operational news flow ahead, gilt yields coming off their lows - which is good for pensions - and a compelling valuation. MS said its AlphaWise survey indicates further strong quarters ahead for BT with market share wins in broadband and TV and rising average revenue per user. In addition, it sees further success in BT Mobile, driven by the recent push into family SIMs and the Enterprise market. It also said that full legal separation of Openreach is unlikely to play out given the higher pension costs it could trigger. As far as yields are concerned, it noted AA UK corporate bond yields have bounced from a low of less than 2% in early September to 2.7% currently, which is positive for BT's pension due to a lower present value of liabilities. On valuation, it highlighted the fact that BT is trading at a 16% discount to the median UK stock from almost parity in late 2015/early 2016. | christh

11/1/2017 10:25 | Don't forget BT provide managed IT services --- a division that was making losses until a few years ago and turned around to profitability. | younasm
11/1/2017 10:20 | toon1966 11 Jan '17 - 10:03 - 20525 of 20525 I think posting anything that is relevant to BT is important! BT Sport does not rely only on subscriptions but on ad hoc sport fans who pay to view these sporting events. BT Sport has been developed and has become a brand and everything comes at a cost but is a success and making good money for the company. BT is now a versatile company, not just a communications company! From telecoms to broadcasting, broadband to data, mobile to fibre to the premises, research and development, pay to view etc. BT is a growth company and it will grow year upon year with new products added to its portfolio. BT share price is justified to be 560p and maybe 700p-800p in 2 years time or longer depending on the economy in the UK after Brexit! | christh |
