protean,
Thanks for the suggestion, I'm afraid it might become pretty tiresome if you are trying to write a post on a busy thread though.

JB,
There are no plans to do that I'm afraid, but good old ctrl+f should help speed things up for you a bit as you look down your list.

Jon827,
The results go back to around November 2008 and should be accurate, it basically just searches through the text of each thread (or an indexed version of it actually). Happy to stand corrected if you can point out a result that has been omitted though. If you find one we can then work out why it doesn't appear.

im suspicious of the results the new feature is generating John. there must be a bug in your code somewhere...... Out of 14k posts on the Tree Shake thread its says there are only 253 occurrences of the word 'shake'?????

John,

Thanks for that.

Is there any way you can come up with filtering your own charts, for example searching for the EPIC in the chart grabber?

How about some functionality to automatically refresh the page any time a new post is added to a thread so that you don't have to keep hitting the refresh button on the browser?

This would be very handy on active threads.

Indeed very useful - now what would be clever would be to have the search feature per ticker symbol - search is per thread - for example ASC has many threads - a cumulative search via ticker would be interesting -

but its just a link to the normal search page? what it needs is a link from the search page 'back to thread' too.

Evening all,

We have just introduced a new feature on the BBs, allowing you to search for words within a thread. You can find the search box at the top left of the thread header. Type something in and then hit "Go".

We show results back a few years and hope to increase the range as we go on.

You can search for words or usernames, making it really easy to see all of the posts by one poster on a thread.

If you're horribly bored you can even find out how often a particular word appears, oil for example. I know I've done it... on the NEW GKP / Drilling for Super Giants thread...

Happy word hunting!

John

State-owned bank Northern Rock will be sold to Virgin Money for £747m, it has been revealed.

The lender was last year split in two, forming a so-called "good bank" for its healthy businesses and a "bad bank" management company to wind down toxic assets. Only the "good" bank -- Northern Rock plc -- has been sold to Virgin.

Chancellor George Osborne said the sale of nationalised bank Northern Rock to Virgin Money announced on Thursday was a good deal for consumers and taxpayers, and would help the country's banking system.

"This is going to be a good thing for British consumers, we are going to have a powerful new presence on the High Street, offering better deals to families, and real choice and competition," Osborne told reporters.

"We are, with the announcement today of the sale of Northern Rock, starting to get our banking system back into better shape, lending to people, helping families."

Under the terms of the deal the government will receive 747 million pounds in cash on the closing of the sale, rising to as much as 1 billion pounds in total in the future.

Email from David Blundell received. - I've signed the petition already, the only need 100,000 signatures for a debate about it in parliament

A Petition to Sign

You may be aware of the Government's new e-petition system. We intended to create one on the B&B nationalisation issue ourselves but someone else beat us to it. The Government are unlikely to accept another petition on the same subject, so even though the wording is not perfect, we STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you support it. Please click on this link to sign the petition:

The petition calls for the Government to give the company back to the shareholders or pay compensation and we wholeheartedly support that stance. Only 100,000 signatures are required to secure a debate in Parliament so please ensure you ask all your friends and relatives to sign it also.

The so called toxic part of B&B still managed to make over £150mln profit for the last 6 months. I don't consider that to be toxic.
