10/6/2014 09:03 | Morning all! So far, so good. Just took a few on the dark side with SHP. That could go to £38 if it doesn't slide, so you'll need wide stops if you want to stay with it regardless, or 65ish if you don't fancy the white knuckle ride. Keeping a close eye on cable. Monkey thinks the dollar is likely to get stronger as the DOW et al cool off. Trade well and prosper Earthlings...... | penycae
09/6/2014 12:39 | Good afternoon Penycae Darksiding BP!!! Such a brazen declaration will not endear you to the thread darlings. I expect them to call for an inquisition of monkey immediately followed by a feast of monkey burgers. I had a look at the SHP chart and understand your interest. I have added it to my watch list. Regards to Mrs P, Monkey and Hound. | bracke
09/6/2014 12:20 | Afternoon all. Just taken a few on the darkside. Quite a few actually, so I hope the monkey got it right. Keep an eye on SHP for a darkside punt, and don't believe the Euro is doomed. Trade well and prosper Earthlings. | penycae
09/6/2014 12:11 | The fall to 300p was overdone at the time and as more certainty is established we revert to a more normal level around 500p versus the old 600p before GoM - so 100p per share cost of the oil leak - coupled with underlying continued business as normal, such as rationalising an untenable position in Russia etc. I am not sure I really understand the parameters of your question - falling, bad news, ominously bigger. You sound as if you expect the share price not to have risen. My point is it has, in spite of as yet lack of resolution on the GoM problems. It's a fundamentally robust business - damaged much less than you might fear by incompetent management. I think it's a Buffetism - you want to invest in a business simple enough to be run by any fool, since some fool is likely to be running it. | donaferentes
09/6/2014 11:27 | If your assumption that bad news is in the price, why has the price risen so much when the bad news is beginning to look ominously bigger with the attitude of this government and regulatory system to ANY foriegn organisation? | prambigear
09/6/2014 10:01 | I'm not sure your expectations are very realistic. 4 years ago we woke up to hear about the disaster in the GoM. The share price fell like a stone to 300p. Since then it has risen to around 500 - c. 14% compound per annum growth, plus a 5% dividend. Tell me another stock at the top of the FTSE100 giving you 19% total return year after year! We hit 500p in early January, since when we have breached it twice, hitting first 508p (EOD) and recently 509.5p (EOD). The lows are getting higher too. A great steady climb, in the face of all the bad news already known and heavily discounted for any bad news to come. When that bad news is finally established, even at its worst, there will be a small, but significant, relief/certainty rally. When that bad news is established at less than its worst, the rally will be considerably greater. Meanwhile, we are protected to the downside by the degree to which the worst is already discounted. I can't think of many other FTSE100 stocks with so much promise that pays so handsomely whilst you wait for it to be fulfilled. Not, perhaps, very scientific, but good enough for me to be happy with its place in my SIPP. | donaferentes
08/6/2014 23:21 | Bp. Seems to enjoy 500+ at the moment. Looking at the 3year chart it seems at the v top of tg the range. Until bp. Breaks over 515 ish to new highs I personally am staying out of the game waiting for movement one way or the other. | supermarky
08/6/2014 18:36 | BP and bad news go together like a hand and glove. The claims against BP are ongoing and certainly run into next year. | bracke
07/6/2014 14:26 | Pram - why not take advantage of the 5% dividend whilst you wait for the smoke to clear. By the time it has cleared, you will see in plain daylight that the share price has reacted sometime previously in a northerly direction. You can only seriously stay out as a punt on bad news to come? | donaferentes

06/6/2014 13:28 | New report on BP oil spill points to faulty blowout preventer procedures The steel drill pipe on BP's Macondo exploration well in the Gulf of Mexico buckled under extreme pressure and kept the blowout preventer from sealing the well during the April 2010 disaster that sank the Deepwater Horizon rig, according to a new report released Thursday. In its report, the Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board said that the blowout preventer's blind shear ram - an emergency hydraulic device with two sharp, powerful cutting blades - probably did activate on the night of April 20, contrary to the conclusions reached by some other investigations. But the device ended up puncturing the off-center pipe, sending huge volumes of oil and gas to the surface and triggering the massive oil spill, the board said. | spacecake

05/6/2014 10:38 | As I type the share price is at the 2 Hour SMA 200 which may support for a while but this share price very much likes to return to the Daily SMA 200. Previous price action suggests it will reach the SMA 200 by 20 June which is currently at 476. | bracke

03/6/2014 18:06 | Evening bracke! I've noticed you posting on the FX thread, so I know you're still about. The STX thread seems to have died off. Is Babywolf still OK? I've been a bit quiet lately, as I'm busy elsewhere, but the last couple of weeks have been especially kind to me. Tweaked Monkeysoft so it can handle any of the FTSE 100 which I care to write in, so now just like setting up any of the Forex pairs which I normally trade. RIO works especially well. Can take a bigger position without too much worry if it doesn't go right straightaway. Mrs.P sees the potential to make a lot of money, but then she doesn't know quite how ruthless the market can be. This time next year Rodney........ | penycae
03/6/2014 16:47 | Good day Penycae I am not surprised about Mrs P's portfolio. She would have done well last year but this year the FTSE is not much above where it finished last year. This year has been a trading year. | bracke
03/6/2014 16:35 | Afternoon all. Yep, if the top is not in, it's close enough. Starting to short the highs on the DOW, and also some of the high betas. Doing alright. Increased the old trading pot X 8 on my spread bet account over the last three months. Strangely enough, Mrs P's portfolio (buy and hold) not done as well. Looks like me and the monkey might have to cash in a few chips to fund this year's holiday. Trade well and prosper Earthlings...... | penycae
02/6/2014 14:00 | Just can't break out and smash through. I am worried this is the top. Sold out earlier today. Need to see evidence it can break higher | supermarky |
