Clearly, the policy declared on dividend payments of between 75-100% of profits is no comfort at all to ordinary shareholders, if the profits will diminish or altogether disappear, as it happened in the last quarter.

The trading statement issued today has no comfort for ordinary sharholders of any sort whatsoever.

This company is a totally directors and employee centered company with ever increasing wages and bonuses paid them and with ever increasing commissions paid to others.

This company is neither a growth company or an income producing company. What sort of company is this?

Dont know how good this company is. It appears that the lions share of the profits are eaten up by ever increasing commissions & staff remmuneration.
The record seems to be as:

Period 30.6.2008A 31.12.2008A30.6.2009A 31.12.2009A 30.6.2010E
Ended

PTP £50,064M £8,598M £17,545M £26,008M £51M
% of revenue 43.5% 16% 17% 37% 40%

Commission
paid out £2.086M £1,839M £6,536M £6,812M £12.6M
% of revernue 1.8% 3.4% 6.1% 8.9% 9%

It appears to me that the pot ( Pretax profits = PTP ) available to the ordinary sharholders is an ever uncertain measure. Being promised to distribute between 50% and 100% of the profits to ordinary shareholders is an uncertain income, since one cannor rely on a steady pot being available even in good times. I wonder what this dividend policy will bring in bad times, when the commissions, bonuses & remmuneration seems to be escalating all the time.

This share doesn't seem to have any direction at the moment, although i believe it can go higher, its been to over £5 previously. It pays a reasonable dividend and they said they would pay more in the future.

re orange5 - 8 Jan'09 - 21:21 - 118 of 121

Thank you Greg, but why was there such a difference in the selling price and the buying price, can you please explain to me? Thanks.

yes the spread seems to start wide and close in the day.

The whole market is a lotery at the moment.
I think more forced sellers are going to happen if the dow stays under 8000.

re bbay there has been a lot of interest in corp debt so next results might be good...........mmm

As i see it they specialize in corporate debt.
The margins were so big recently that some liquidated shares to buy debt.
BBAY should of been in the front of the queue.
If they played this right and the world does not implode their earnings might see record highs at some point in the future.
Still a risk as we dont know.

Debt markets are a very dangerous place to be at the moment - just hope bbay are on top of their game.

Subprime problems in the US are causing BBAY to fall. Their credit funds will probably have got whacked somewhat by the recent falls. Best to keep an eye on their NAV performance to see how they have fared.

I think I remember reading a year or so ago that BBay are reported to have one of the most successful High Yield teams in the business. Suppose the next month or so will tell.
