Crooke, M.S.A. do seem to have something good coming up, they seem to be pretty dedicated. Just a pity they havent kept us posted on their own website about recent events. But I hear direct from their programmer that real developments are happening.

Not sure if doing a deal with (say) Orange etc would be better than Lycos.

From the MSA website, you can see (small print) that they hope to have MSA incorporated 'seamlessly' into bigger sites. Watch this thread - Brian.

I've been most of the day and could have done with the beeps. Just glad that IG Markets obliging to tell what's happening.

BJ, your last message did make me think that MSA are providing the best website for alerts so someone like orange, vodafone or BT Cellnet should consider doinga deal with this website. IF MSA had a big deal then Lycos would provide a better service.

VERY positive replies from M.S.A. !!

Free SMS services have been in jeopardy. But... they have been in useful discussions with Lycos in London, about their contractual arrangements.

There could be an 'exciting' deal announced any time.

Watch this thread for developments. They may put a message on the M.S.A. website, very soon.

I've sent another fact-finding email to MyShareAlert.com ; the performance has gone from excellent to zero in no time at all.

No indications yet.

The lack of beeps at present is ominous. I usually get several per hour, (using 2% steps for six companies).

Same story here, all week no alerts.
Does anyone know what they plan to charge per alert?

Crooke - sad to say, no beeps for 4 days. This looks odd. Rob Holmes did say 'free SMSs are under pressure now' ; not sure what this means.

They should gt the service working properly and then offer the free service like advfn which ahs the delayed prices and also the premium service. Until they show relaibility they won't get the customers.

I choose Vizzavi who are in bed with Vodaphone, my mobile has a Vodaphone contract that's why I choose them. Let me know if you do use them because there are a few problems I encountered when setting up my email alerts on their webpages.

At the moment I am planning to use two alert systems simultaneously with totally independant lines of transmission. A direct sms system like my share alert might be the other option, but they need to get their act together. Nothing Ventured does not seem to be working well either. Shame ADVFN cannot be more consistent they have been by far the best for the last few days, but I will stick with them for my primary alert system, at least the alerts are supposed to go out on time.

Cassiopeia, I was wondering who you plumped for in the end to get the email to SMS message bit done?

Cheers, Merts

Two alerts bang on time from ADVFN via my mobile this morning (to the nearest few minutes anyway), but bafflingly no E mail on my PC even though the alerts are flashing on the site, this could be BTinternet throwing in the reserve gremlins to help out!

Hi Crooke - I've been out all day, great weather, but zero beeps this week. I cant believe Lycos has been dead for three days, I've sent email to MyShareAlert (Rob Holmes) to find out whats happening.

bj444, Could have done with the alerts today as I spent most of the day in the car but I fortunately my timing to sell was immedaitely after the ecb announcement which I knew was @ 12.45. Would be very useful tomorrow as the weather is so good.

Crooke, I'll try to ascertain why zero joy this week. They did say the problem was at Lycos.

Cassi - I often got alerts from ADVFN before 8 am; I assumed it was the stock ex. setting up their initial prices ( with enormous spread sometimes) . I didnt take them seriously till after 8.15.

bj444,

Just seen your comments on the voders thread. I've had nothing all week although voders hasn't really moved much. I am out today and set my alerts to specific targets like 203p for voders. The 17min delay will hopefully mean the price is at 205p and I will have rung the broker to sell!!! :) Did the same withh the other shares. Have a good day.

WOW! got an alert from ADVFN on time to my mobile, in fact it was during premarket so it is difficult to determine exactly what time it should have been sent, but there it was at 7.50am on my mobile. Prooves it can be done.

The Nothing Ventured alert (15 min delayed) for the same setting came at about 8.30am.

Shame I hadn't got the phone switched on to receive it really!

I've had apologies from MyShareAlert.com for lack of alerts yesterday. They say its due to their SMS provider (Lycos).

Normal excellent service should be resumed soon - hopefully today.

Had a great day, out & about, with Alerts beeping away merrily, no problems. Gentle rises and falls, though Psion made some amazing progress.

I reckon any service which is totally reliable, and very fast, is going to be expensive. Real-time prices cost far more than delayed ones.

All feedback is welcome... meantime I do jobs on the car, or in the garden , kept informed by 17min-delayed alerts on about 6 shares, and I'm MUCH happier than when I'm worrying at the computer screen all day !

I've just been to the sites listed above for converting emails to SMS.

a) iobox.com charges 18p for every Email-to-SMS ; Bit steep.

b) locust.com charges £3 per month, plus 5p per message.

c) mybriefcase.com has changed itself to Anytimenow.com. More user friendly than before, but still seems cumbersome. If you need a "comprehensive web-based email solution", this site provides it; but I couldn't find the cost. Gave up.

For now I'm quite happy with MyShareAlert.com which is very simple to use -and best of all, sends SMS messages DIRECT. Its definitely a good place to start.

Been out in the sun today. Alerts were fine until lunch. Seems they had an outage again. You'd think they could give us a polite warning; after all, they are experts at SMS messages ! Still, its free. And the alerts pointed me to VOD for possible buying.

Bought VOD at 198 ; my first venture with VOD.

BTW, I always manually change the price I want a warning. I always make sure its a penny below I want to sell it at then it can give me the chance to sell at perhaps my real price target, ie 17 mins later.
