probably cos the big coal deal that was rumoured to be never actually was...and i'm probably the only chump still holding on to these rapidly falling shares when with hindsight it was obvious they were a sell at the 420+ mark. Judging by the lack of recent comment on this board i can only assume that most of the others got out while the going was so good. Kicking myself.

A different world. Very sad.

Regarding BISI, I think we are just at the beginning of a growth story. The experienced Board and their contacts and influence in SA are the key to BISI's success, not something you can measure by numbers.

"China to close 7,000 coal mines"

"China is to suspend production of almost a third of its coal mines as part of a safety crackdown on the industry after more than 5,000 workers died last year.

The official news paper China Daily, said yesterday that 7,000 of the most poorly equipped mines would shut down for repair work and would not reopen until they met national standards.

The announcement came two days after 123 miners missing in a flooded coal mine in southern China were declared dead. Eleven mine officials have been arrested and two mayors dismissed"

shouldn't they really be obliged to put out some sort of announcement whether they've made a 'coal deal'(whatever that means) or not due to the share price rise?

Just noticed that this morning's FT attributes yesterday's rise to 'rumours of a coal deal'.

If Bisi made a deal, it would presumably be a 'coal deal'. But one does wonder whether the rumours caused the rise, or vice versa.

Good luck, you may well be right.

I only recently noticed the Evo forecast figure. Certainly is a big increase.

I find it hard to get a handle on BISI numbers, mainly because they oly give out limited price information, then there are exchange rates, export/domestic, lumps, nuts and peas (or whatever), impact of new machinery.

I'm holding on to what I've got left. I prefer CBM at the moment which I added to yesterday.

OT.

DJ - I would quite like to pick your brain on ATH, what are your thoughts on it?

Please answer on the ATH board if you prefer.

Hi, Sammu. Oops, yes: sudden about turn there. Still, some other coal shares are up: APF 5.2%, AEN 3.5%, so I think we can put the volatility here down to the illiquidity. The trend is probably still up... I think...

This stock does go up and, to an extent down, quite sharply. It seems to be continuing in this vein with yesterday's rise and the sharp fall of the last few minutes currently down about 40p from earlier this morning.

It remains very illiquid.

I sold out too much of my holding too early.

DJ - We continue to happen upon the same stocks independently. I bought a bit of ATH recently, but I need to do a bit more research, especially regarding France. The ATH bb isn't exactly buzzing, which I think is a good sign.

APF pushing up nicely today up 6p.

I'm not questioning the amount of coal in the ground, bisiboy - if anything, you understated it. The difficulty is placing a value on future cash flows from it, given the huge political and economic uncertainties and the very poor record of forecasters of commodity prices even six months ahead, let alone ten years. Anyway, as you say, more buyers than sellers - let's just lie back and enjoy it. :-)

the market is way short of stock hence the rise
i accept of course my calcs are very simple, but what you need to remember is
they are in production these are proven.
maybe when i said £5.00 for christmas i was being to cautious!

Lucky you, GS - enjoy it while it lasts. Had my seaside holiday last week, in a cold and sodden Cromer.

Today's rise was extraordinary. It does make one wonder whether there might be something up.

Hi DJ, on hols in Channel Isles, just got a steam machine to log on with great difficulty but well worth it, looks as though its been an interesting day/week/month:-)

I agree with the coal type sums, the reason for getting in, but wonder if there could be another deal afoot? Possibly property related and a reason to take advantage of the 90 to 120 day relax? Normally I (and a lot of others) run v quick on the delay of results but with the gain after the announcement, could it be being used to incorporate news (good)?

Only thing I know is that when stan starts deramping, it's usually a good omen. Apart from his unfailing good humour, that is one of the reasons why he is so welcome on this thread. Similarly with the IC, which recommended taking profits at 311p in July.

More seriously, they do have a UK property portfolio worth about £15m, and extensive reserves of coal in South Africa: 14m tonnes at their working mine Black Wattle, and another 12m tonnes recently bought from BHP by a joint venture and expected to start production in 2007. Who can say what that is worth? Everything depends on the oil price and the Chinese boom. Has to be seen as speculative at this price, I suppose. Evolution's target, when they produced those bullish forecasts in April or May, was only 300p.

Lots of small buys today and closed at 437.5p, up 11.5%: could it have been tipped somewhere?
