Thanks Jeffian, seems a rational explaination to me.

I'd have thought it was quite simple, really. There's an indicative offer on the table at 350 in a market that's suffering a major credit/finance squeeze so
a) the firm bid may not arrive at all or
b) not at the indicated level and in the meantime
c) the counter-bidder has dropped out leaving Montagu in a non-competitive situation.

The maximum upside as I write is 14.75%. The downside, if the bid fails, is probably around 35%. Current price seems a strightforward reflection of risk/reward to me.

Regards, Ian

It defies any rational thinking a bit like some women!!

Forgive my greenness, but should this be behaving like this? I mean I understood that one of the potential offers had the backing of the banks at 350 and the board said they were favourable to any such offer over 350. I understand the GE offer is more hot air, but I thought Montague was about as solid as it gets.

My love/hate relationship with biffa looks set to continue, I mean is it me? But this has to win the award for most bizarre price action over the last year.

2.2m shares and its down, seems a lack of belief in deal going through right now. I live in hope, quality company whatever the situation.

that little wobble shows what happens when rumours about it being called off take hold.

just sold these at small loss. there seems to be enough uncertainty around not to push this up over 340p. One slip on the bid negotiations; and its all off, and this is 250p again in the blink of an eye. The bid seems complex to me, and it seems to be taking a long time. It certainly isn't going over 350p; so the upside at the moment is only 25p max, with maybe 75p downside.

I may well be wrong, and good luck if you are holding - I'd rather take the cash back and look around for other stocks which have less risk / higher yield etc.

Article in Mail today explaining withdrawal of one party interest in buying. And Co would put to share holders any confirmed offer of £3.50. hmm

Confidence appears to be falling because of uncertainty. After all, the deal may not go through. The only significant news, recently, is todays announcement that one of the parties is NOT interested. The investment risk is higher!

"Montagu Private Equity LLP
continues to be interested in pursuing a cash offer for Biffa......

The Board has received notification that Hg Pooled Management Limited ('Hg') no longer wishes to pursue making an offer for Biffa....."

The latter may be part of the reason for the share price slip.

There is still no certainty that a deal will be done.

We should know thursday, given the dows rally biff should follow. If it doesn't, something might be amiss, but with at least two interested groups I would be surprised........ But, I keep getting surprised lately :)

Biffa, certainly a stock to remember for a lifetime! The highs and lows have been at times frustrating and confusing. But not now, finally some sense. £4 seems reasonable.
