29/1/2014 13:02 | Let Banks Fail Is Iceland Mantra as 2% Joblessness in Sight Iceland let its banks fail in 2008 because they proved too big to save. Now, the island is finding crisis-management decisions made half a decade ago have put it on a trajectory that's turned 2 percent unemployment into a realistic goal. While the euro area grapples with record joblessness, led by more than 25 percent in Greece and Spain, only about 4 percent of Iceland's labor force is without work. Prime MinisterSigmundur D. Gunnlaugsson says even that's too high. "Politicians always have something to worry about," the 38-year-old said in an interview last week. "We'd like to see unemployment going from where it's now -- around 4 percent -- to under 2 percent, which may sound strange to most other western countries, but Icelanders aren't accustomed to unemployment." | traderabc

22/1/2014 15:43 | Elm, look at the prices on e bay, they look like VAT has been taken into account. Even with VAT, these prices don't strike me as unreasonable. If you take into consideration the time, the energy (barrels of oil) the infrastructure ect required to create one of those coins, then consider the abundance of uses for silver, the inventory levels of the last 100 years, the depletion of near surface easily extracted silver, it should become apparent there's a very good case for owning silver. Though do bear in mind my views are not in the slightest way impartial, I own lots of the stuff which probably clouds my thinking somewhat. | traderabc
22/1/2014 15:17 | Not sure you can charge the vat back unless you are registered? | elmfield
22/1/2014 15:11 | elmfield, ETF's have no vat and can be held in an ISA, though you do have to trust the provider, I trust CEF atm but I could be wrong. Also if you buy physical and pay the vat (in the UK) when you sell (in the UK) you pass on the vat, lastly silver has dropped loads more then 20% in the last few years so you could look at it as the vat has already been saved. | traderabc
22/1/2014 15:05 | Silver though attracts vat, you then have a Long way till you can sell at your cost price. | elmfield

22/1/2014 14:56 | Think i missed this one at the time. Investor Jim Rogers warns about impact of 'artificial sea of liquidity' 24 December 2013 Last updated at 11:27 GMT As the US Central Bank cuts back on the emergency money it has been pumping into the economy, the influential investor Jim Rogers has warned about the impact of "an artificial sea of liquidity". He said: "This is the first time that all the central banks are printing staggering amounts of money at the same time. This is going to be a disaster in the end." He expressed concerns despite US stock markets looking likely to end 2013 on a high and signs of recovery in the eurozone. Sharanjit Leyl asked Mr Rogers what effect the "tapering" would have on the US economy. | traderabc

16/1/2014 20:25 | Elm, Not much is 'safe' these days including even cash depending on which particular currency it's denominated in, cash doesn't even earn interest and most western states seem very keen on debasing the stuff. As for gold, many think it's better then cash. Stocks are always good after a crash, the bigger the crash the better they are. As they are doing well atm perhaps it isn't the best of times to buy, but ultimately markets don't always do what they 'should', especially in the shorter term. | traderabc |
