Jim Rogers: The 3 Most Exciting Investment Opportunities Right Now

Commodities guru Jim Rogers lives in Singapore and is a well-known China bull, but the contrarian investor travels all over the world (and has circumnavigated the globe twice). So we asked where he sees exciting economic opportunities for average investors now.

Rogers tells The Daily Ticker there are great opportunities in Africa – he names Angola and Ethiopia specifically. He also is focusing on the South American country of Uruguay.

"I said to my wife, 'let's move to Angola – we could live like kings,'" Rogers, the author of Street Smarts: Adventures on the Road and in the Markets, tells us in the video above. "She said, 'you move to Angola; I don't want to live like a queen in Angola'...but you could!"

Jim welcomes back Ned Schmidt CFA, Publisher of The Value View Gold & The Agri-Food Value View Reports. Ned explains why he believes that 2013 will mark the bottom for agricultural commodity prices. He sees this year is "as good as it gets" for the consumer, and most prices are very likely to rise next year. Ned also discusses the three Ag stocks that investors should have in their portfolios, plus he also lists two new agriculture stocks that he has added to his "buy list".

The US professionals quitting the rat race to become farmers

Farming has always been a hard way to make a living.

Now, a small but - anecdotally - growing group of Americans are leaving the structure and security of an office job for the gruelling, yet rewarding work of earning money from the land.

Some want to be a part of improving the food supply for themselves and their community; others are excited by the prospect of becoming self-sufficient, or simply working outdoors like their ancestors did.

There are no good statistics yet on how many people are moving from desk jobs to field work, but Kimberley Hart, Karen Sommerlad and Erik Jacobs have all made the transition.

Ms Hart gave up making costumes for Broadway productions to grow vegetables on a modest rented farm in upstate New York, while Mr Jacobs left behind his career as a Boston-based freelance news photographer to study as an apprentice farmer.
