The practical reality is that the mine is already in construction with the full support of Fidelity, Blackrock, Majedie, Resource Capital Funds and a raft of other financiers as well as President Herrera the Chief Executive of the Region..Herrera defiende en las Cortes la mina de uranio de RetortilloAsegura que cuenta con 80 informes favorables07.06.2016 | 19:25 Instalaciones de Berkeley en Retortillo.

Nifty Fifty New Article on BKY

Berkeley Energia* (LSE:BKY) has announced it has signed a Letter of Intent relating to the sale of the first million pounds of production from its Salamanca uranium project – with an average contemplated price of above $41 per pound comparing with the current spot price of around $25 per pound.

The price corresponds to a view that “from 2018, when Salamanca is scheduled to come into production, the market is expected to be dominated by US utilities looking to re-contract who will at the same time be competing with Chinese new reactor demand, which may lead to higher spot and term contract prices”. This sees Berkeley to apply a combination of fixed and market-related pricing in the early years of production to help secure margins, whilst retaining exposure to potentially higher prices.

The noted Letter of Intent is with commodity trading company Interalloys Trading for an envisaged five year period starting from the commencement of the mine and it is added that “discussions are underway to finalize the non-binding agreement into an offtake contract by the end of the year.Berkeley is also in discussions with another potential off-taker in relation to a sales contract with terms similar”.

Berkeley Managing Director, Paul Atherley, further adds “with initial construction well underway and as we move closer to production we are receiving growing interest from major utilities who are looking to diversify their offtake to a low cost producer in Europe. We intend to build our uranium sales book by entering into long term offtake contracts from now until the commencement of production”.

This all compares with an anticipated steady state cash cost of around $15 per pound and, although the shares were added to the portfolio at a 20p offer price last September and this latest announcement sees them heading back towards 50p, our confidence in a 60p+ price is further enhanced. Hold.

Nice write up from Trader Tim on Berkeley Energia BKY 47.80 +1.80 3.91%Market Cap: £92.3mPrice: 46pSpread: 4.2%Exciting news for the small cap this morning! The company announce that it has signed a Letter of Intent with a European based commodity trading company relating to the sale of the first million pounds of production. This is the first of a number of off-take agreements investors were hoping for.The agreement for 5 years with Interalloys Trading from the commencement of the mine and is extendable by mutual consent. The agreed price is $41 per pound, which is significantly higher than spot price of uranium of $25 per pound. The agreement will rely on a combination of "fixed and market related pricing". This is important. With the price of uranium at all-time lows, entering into 5-year agreements now may not be advisable. The price of uranium could go up in the next 5 years. If this is the case, an off-take agreement can cap any upside. However, it does protect the company from spot price volatility, and particularly the risk of lower prices. Berkeley have utilised a combination of fixed price and market related pricing, which will mean, as mentioned in the RNS, "Berkeley remain exposed to potentially higher prices" and much of the upside will not be capped. This is sensible given where the uranium price is at the moment. The company also say that they are in discussions with another potential off-take partner regarding a sales contract, which have similar terms was the Interalloys agreement. It's exciting times for the company as they closing in on becoming one of the world's lowest cost uranium producers.Berkeley offer their view on the uranium commodity price. Berkeley's view is that whilst uranium prices may remain flat in the near term, from 2018, when Salamanca is scheduled to come into production, the market is expected to be dominated by US utilities looking to re-contract who will at the same time be competing with Chinese new reactor demand, which may lead to higher spot and term contract prices. We are delighted to have signed an agreement over our first million pounds of offtake at contemplated pricing above $41 per pound which would give us a very strong margin above our steady state cash cost of around US$15 per pound. With initial construction well underway and as we move closer to production we are receiving growing interest from major utilities who are looking to diversify their offtake to a low cost producer in Europe

Some very interesting comments by broker Peel Hunt who understand the story well, I liked:- project sanction should put Uranium back into investors' minds- having another demand source round the corner should add a ratchet to the BKY investment case- Salamanca the lowest cost development project on the market- Robust even at low Uranium price "This is the only project that can boast strong margins at this level"From Peel HuntBerkeley Energia | n/c | Hinkley Point adds to uranium demand The news that after much 'umming and ahhing' the UK government is to press ahead with Hinkley Point should, all else equal add a further tightening of the long term market balance for uranium. PH view: Obviously the Berkeley project is planned to be onstream well before Hinkley Point is commissioned but the project sanction will, we think, put uranium back into UK investors minds as a realistic long term energy source for the UK market. Having a potential demand source 'just around the corner' in the UK will give another ratchet to the Berkeley investment case. Absent the small component to group profits in Rio Tinto there are limited means for UK-only investors to gain exposure to uranium producers, adding a further turn of uniqueness to Berkeley. As a reminder, Salamanca is the lowest cost development project on the market. Despite the current uranium spot price (at a decade long low of $26/lb) the company stands to generate cash. This is the only project that can boast strong margins at this level. We would expect the management team to arrange long term supply contracts which are likely to be priced above the $40/lb level. On this basis the project boasts an IRR of 60%.
