Benfields are a broker and not an insurer (syndicate) they floated their insurer Brit some time ago. They have very little exposure to Katrina other than profit commision but this will be offset by commision on reinstatement premiums.

Me again. Anyone got a handle on Benfield's exposure to Katrina?

Anyone still monitoring this thread? Tottle? Hyder?
I ask because the latest Sven Lorenz newsletter hints that he will be tipping a Lloyds syndicate next week, and I've a feeling it may be BFD. I'm coming aboard in case last year's Marsh rumours resurface. Any thoughts anybody?

Is the horror in Asia likely to have any impact on BFD?

An obvious buy. What is this nonsense about obclare and stuff the price has stayed the same, lot of nasty fuss, you won't go wrong on this; £3 sounds cheap

As it happens it was a buying opportunity, a nice white candlestick today to get the chartists excited but what happens tomorrow.

Q: Is this a buying opportunity or is there something going fundamentally wrong with this company?

A quick warning about Obclare. This is from
GB678 on the superscapre thread.

I am more likely to filter you, your a short term trader obc, we know that from the mdy bb, I wouldnt trust your comments at all as they will directly reflect your financial position,long/short

Obclare has recently trashed the OMH threads with deramps after she was exposed as being a pump and dump merchant and a shorter.

OBCLARE CAN NOT BE TRUSTED

Is this the bottom, have we found a support/resistance level level?

Things appear to be taking an upturn the chart below posted on the 12th March

Thanks for your input Paddy, hope the srengthening dollar will help the price. Some m & a news would be nice. Excuse my ignorance but what does ILV stand for.

tottle, I think all the action in the near term will be in the ILVs adn Insurers and not the Brokers unless there is some m and a .imho etc!

Hyder, nice to have a bit of company. Getting very fed up with old ben, waiting for around 257p to break even and then move on.

Your not quite alone :-)
The chart below indicates its broken the 45 day moving avarage, lets hope its the bottom and we get at least sideward movement from now on.

EDIT: MMs are still taking advantage of the dollar dropping to f about with the price, so maybe more falls to come:-(
Update off "Paddyfool" would not go amiss, he seems to have his finger on the pulse with this sector.

Heres a chart with a few trend lines, the chart has broken the middle trend line, it would be nice to see the chart break the upper red trend line tomorrow

Feeling very lonely here but for anybody viewing, good volume today. Overdue for another leg-up to 260+

Couldn`t figure out the reason for the volume/sell trades today until I read the director sharedealing news that came out at 15.50. Perhaps this may have been holding the price back recently along with a depressed market.
Hopefully we can look forward to a sustainable rise from now on.

I think before long Marsh or Aon will want these guys, in the meantime I am not too sure that the price will go anywhere.

Towed in the hole, glad i`m not alone here. Good buying today and I suspect the 30,000 sell after hours was actually a buy, being one of the reasons why the price went up.

Looks as though I may be talking to myself, (first sign of madness) but pleased that old ben is in the blue amongst a sea of red on my screen.
