I notice this board goes quiet when the share price moves up and doom and gloom when it goes down.

1,000,000 trade today.

Guys if you are short you should have closed at 1.20.

US begins to break foreign oil 'addiction'

Although the reduction in oil demand growth is partly because of slower economic growth and a projected 1m-barrel-a-day rise in output from the US's Gulf of Mexico oil fields by 2012, experts also believe that legislation will accelerate the trend. The EIA expects the energy act to help boost biofuel production from 8bn gallons this year to at least 32bn by 2030, while prompting a 40 per cent efficiency improvement in new cars from 2020.

Washington Times - 1/5/08:

'Members of Congress say they overreached by pushing ethanol on consumers and will move to roll back federal supports for it - the latest sure signal that Congress' appetite for corn-based ethanol has collapsed as food and gas prices have shot up.'

Bust-up over Delta-T
If you looked at Netherlands-based Bateman, which principally operates
in the engineering and construction sub-sector, purely on a PE
basis then you might think it represented an attractive investment
opportunity.
An increasing part of its business revolves around providing proprietary
technology in the renewable energy, phosphate and solvent extraction
industries. It trades on a lowly eight times' 2008 earnings after receiving a
battering for posting less than stellar results for the first six months.
However, those results did raise some important questions about the company's
strategy. The main black mark being the ill advised investment in
the US refinery plant designer and
biofuel technology firm Delta-T.The
deal resulted in a lawsuit filed by
Bateman Litwin against the
founders, who were forced out of
Delta-T last Autumn. They countered
suggestions that they had misrepresented
the financial status of
the company, suggesting instead
that Bateman was acting out of
'buyer's remorse'.
Management admitted alongside
the results that the market for ethanol in the US would be 'dead' for the
rest of the year and it cannot see the picture improving until spring next
year. Delta-T could be a significant drag on performance and sentiment in
the intervening period.
While overall results were still solid the outlook statement lacked the
bullish tone adopted by many peers, and the company stressed the impact
Delta-T would have on performance in the second half.
Given the challenges facing engineering and construction specialists in
the sector, in the form of high raw material costs and reliance on overstretched
subcontractors, a focused approach will be crucial. Investors may
be concerned that Delta T indicates a lack of focus on the part of
Bateman's management. Joanna Craig, of house broker Oriel Securities,
downgraded the stock to hold in the wake of the disappointing interims.
On the other hand Evolution Securities reiterated a buy recommendation
and set a 300p price target, saying: 'In our view there could be a
strong turnaround story here, starting at a low multiple.'
While it is possible that the stock will rebound in the short term, in the
long term the level of growth on offer does not match that of its peers. If
investors become more selective in the wake of a fall in the oil price then
the stock could be punished more than some others.

Bid, don't think so. As I said earlier a lot of trades seemed to be buys but there was a large seller in the background that went through 2 days ago. 2 X 500,000 sells. With that out of the way i think we will see upward movement from here.

Either on TV - newspapers summary, or, online news, last week.

End of year is June, by FY results the litigation should be over, one way, or another and similarly the impact on the bottom line revealed.

Simon

bought at 230 sold at 220 i think , your commments re. delta weighed on me but it was when i saw tiny trades of 130 shares in bnln that got me worried. also the sub prime mess blew up and i had about a week to react as the share price held for a few days. i believe the 65% is held by an israeli billionaire? . im considering kenz now but still have concerns re. falling dollar for earnings . it does appear to be more liquid than bnln.

Has anyone noticed that most of the trades for the last 2 days (and relatively high volume compared to recent trading) seem to be buys! If you like I can post the trades.

"Bodman said that "the bottom line is this: concerns about the sustainability and environmental impact of biofuels are not misplaced, but they are absolutely not a reason to ignore the tremendous promise of biofuels. They are an argument for developing them in a way that makes sense for our environment, for our food supply, for our agricultural community and for our nation's economic health."

The economic and environmental debate over biofuels just keeps heating up, as food prices skyrocket around the world and scientific studies question whether biofuels like ethanol are better for the environment than regular gasoline.

So far, despite hints the U.S. might tweak its biofuel policy, there's been little change. The farm bill, including big subsidies for corn farmers, won wide support. Secretary Bodman said Friday that corn-based ethanol "is critical to our energy security."

But he also said he wants to jumpstart progress on so-called second-generation biofuels, made from things you can't eat. Just one problem-they aren't an option yet. "We don't know how to make [cellulosic ethanol] in commercial quantities," Bodman said. "The production process at present is too complex and too costly but I am confident that we can find the way forward."

typical politics, trying to keep everyone happy in election year

Looks like they are being a tad ambitious in the amount they are suing for:

Amount Demanded: $180,000,000.00

Unfortunately the Delta acquisition was a disasterous decision and that is what has really brought this share price down. It is a anchor around their necks which will not be easy to divest or to obtain a good return. This is a drag on the rest of their business which is performing very well and has great forward potential. However because of the former it just stays on my Watchlist.
