30/5/2001 15:35 | So, anyway, anyone tried contacting the BBC or the New Labour party to find out why this story hasn't hit the headlines...nothing to do with the election of course; not media manipulation...naw.. IMHO. | peterreidsmith
30/5/2001 14:16 | Oh I see. The voles it is then. | tkon
30/5/2001 14:09 | You remember that Labour minister who sent her kids to private school during all the furore about Blair removing the funding for working class kids to go to private schools? "People will understand that I want the best for my kids" she said... Incredible. Animal farm couldn't have guessed at the hypocracy of New Labour's "Equality". IMHO. | peterreidsmith
30/5/2001 14:06 | Who? Voles? Or nobs? | tkon
30/5/2001 14:04 | nobs? I poor working class kid from the council estates matey, that's why I can recognise them for the complete frauds that they are. IMHO. | peterreidsmith
30/5/2001 13:58 | I can get you a vole. I hear you nobs are into that sort of thing. | little tyke
30/5/2001 10:31 | A fan at last. Friends, romans, New-Labour wimps lend me your vote. | peterreidsmith
30/5/2001 10:29 | Hear, hear! | tkon
30/5/2001 10:06 | Oh I do - that's the key to survival, but most of the prols don't and that's the key to reelection! | peterreidsmith
30/5/2001 10:04 | prs........policy in this country has alaways been driven by this precept..."we must do nothing to frighten the horses"....When Chernobyl went up there was a blackout and then reassuring noises about the wind direction.I rang a safety company to get my nuclear suit and learnt some very interesting things about policy........partic | mr.elbee
30/5/2001 09:46 | spongy, I think if you look back you were the one to start the references to being deluded and still being at school so if you can so easily forget that, sir, how can I open your eyes to the fact that you maybe hold some responsibility for buying your own "wrong" pension. You will not understand my point because you cannot bear the message it seems; yes your provider was probably in the wrong selling you that product, but you bought it and quite openly admitted yesterday you didn't understand the figures associated with it. I'm all for government agencies intervening and righting a wrong (and I do hope, if your case merited it, that you were compensated) but how often before or since have you bought something that you didn't understand? How did you select a mortgage? A chimp and a dartboard? I wonder how you'll respond, will you prove me right and be as ignorant as I suspected yesterday? The Knight of No. | tkon
30/5/2001 09:41 | No cure for prion diseases, sorry. Still nothing in the news about the "government;s top BSE expert" warning of BSE in the water supply due to the governments handling of disposal...gee imagine that; nothing at all in the press. Woulnd't happen in the states - gagging of the press I mean. Russia perhaps - in the bad old days. Think. IMHO. | peterreidsmith
30/5/2001 00:56 | Little Tyke...I'm trying to be patient with you, but it's not easy: The point was the BSE prion seeping into the water supply; the Dioxin issue was a serious one too and enough for the Dutch to avoid open air fires no doubt, but the real generation-stopping- The next rather interesting issue is why the findings of the governments top BSE advisor (according to link at top) has somehow not found it's way on to the news. Waky waky. This is serious stuff, and an extremely dangerous and disturbing combination. IMHO. [If the governments chief advisors risk analysis is correct 1:200,000 then I'd imagine that is even worse than eating suspect beef.] | peterreidsmith
30/5/2001 00:56 | I think if BSE does have a link with OPs, then a decision was made along time ago about who gets it in the neck. Chemical industry (with massive world wide implications) or UK beef industry. Not a hard choice. Decision made many years before labour were in power. Not that I particularly like the new government. BTW PhD Inorganic Chemistry | little tyke
30/5/2001 00:49 | little tyke - not sure why you've targetted me with your question? They started off with organophosphates in that programme I mentioned watching earlier on in this thread. These were applied down the spinal cord which is where the link to BSE seemed to come in. From what I can recall of the programme, the farmer-researcher had moved away from that idea in isolation. I can't remember why now. I don't know much about organophosphates except that they seem to have some very nasty side effects and I know a sheep farmer who has been very unwell who blames their use in sheep dips for his problems. I believe there has been some opposition from the big guys who make these products to any real discussion of the issues that might show OPs in a bad light. | gurlywurly
30/5/2001 00:48 | Dave....there are many reasons why matters do not get discussed openly.I presume your Phd was in the physical sciences. Many of my similarly qualified colleagues appear equally bemused. But a study of British political and economic history would show you that being economical with the truth,or indeed covering it up,are prerequisites for successful governance. When you have nearly total control of the media,as Blair has, then the answer to your question is clear. | mr.elbee
30/5/2001 00:32 | PRS What is the dioxide risk? BA by any chance? Dave | little tyke
29/5/2001 21:41 | Meg and js. The future of our nation is in PRM's hands! We should have some news about the MRC grant for CJD test by the end of June. Hyper | hyper al
29/5/2001 21:29 | yes; Invest in PRM. I am sure you agree with that js. Meg | megryan
29/5/2001 21:26 | I thought there might be some comment on BSE here. But few and far between this thread is political. js. | jacsom
29/5/2001 21:15 | I mentioned earlier, but Blair's daddy was a conservative Peer; Blair himself went to fettes (very up market) and of course oxbridge. A Labour man of the people? Hardly. There are few things more dangerous in this life than a rich "socialist" do-gooder who thinks he knows what's best for the prols. IMHO. | peterreidsmith
29/5/2001 17:29 | prs, Heh! well now you know what it felt like for labourites when the tories were in power. However I still think blair is more of a conservative than major ever was. Can't think of one thing they've actually done that i expected. I believe that major actually signalled the end of the lords, and he almost did for the royal family, i was expecting blair to carry on the trend, unfortunately he turned into a royalist at the last minute.... and put his own lords in place. | spongy2 |
