David - the strategic alliance refers to Regus having joined BRTR as a national account and BRTR becoming a national account with Regus.

This means that BRTR can pay rent with trade pounds and that members may use trade pounds at all Regus facilities.

Not a huge deal - but every little helps.

Bartercard moves to new offices over the weekend as outgrown their old offices...

Also - forms a strategic alliance with Regus..(?) What does this mean, we have rented offices off them maybe....

Not a very well written article sadly in my view - in fact quite a bit can be read between the lines - classic case of what is not said actually coming through loudly..I would conclude that a reasonable amount of negative noise been coming from existing users and this is putting off new users and they are trying to dispel this.AIMO only, of course.

I believe the 70000 refers to Cardholders and the 55000 to Members.

Dusty - Disgraceful as it is, I think we can accept it as true and there will be nothing coming from that case.

Maybe it will all work out for the better as a private biz.

Guys thanks for all the research. I haven't been back here since January.

Is it fair to presume that the court case against Nabarro is off as per Post 1564? I however note that the version presented therein has not been validated from any other established source (print media etc).

That is very good David.

Seems to be going well in UK.

I notice that in your link, they mention 70,000 members - whereas the figure in the generic: 'What is Bartercard? piece above it is 55,000 and has been for some time.

I hope the new figure is correct.

I think the sale of Bartercard UK (MBO) is on hold for now - due to global financial situation.

Bartercard Australia says the effects of a management buyout in 2007 and cost-cutting are behind a 52 per cent jump in profit for the six months to December 2007 compared with the same period in 2006.

Bartercard Chief Executive Officer Trevor Dietz expects an even stronger second half year as Australia's economy slows in a tightening global economic environment.

"This is a time where Bartercard does best and can help small and medium businesses retain their cashflow like no other business tool," Dietz says.

Announcing the December half year results today, Dietz says the surge in EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) to $1.73 million was the result of a cost efficiency and expense reduction drive introduced across the business earlier in the year.

"While it reflects just five months of ownership by the Australian management team, the profit growth indicates that the business is robust and still performing strongly 17 years after it was launched on the Gold Coast," adds Dietz.

There had been a slight decrease in the trade volume in the six months to December, for a total of $253 million Trade Dollars.

Despite this, the cost efficiency and expense cutting drive had enabled the strong profit growth.

However, he believes that 2008 will be a "watershed year" for Bartercard Australia with stronger profit growth, higher trade volumes and a range of business initiatives within its own operations and for its members.

"Bartercard is re-inventing itself with a huge investment in recruiting new staff and a renewed commitment to staff training and customer service," Dietz says.

"In addition to the investment in people, we will shortly be announcing a whole new range of business initiatives that will give members even more opportunity to gain substantial cash savings."

john,

Interesting stuff, if not wholly disappointing. Heads I win, tails you lose....

Out of interest, where did you track down this info??
