Let's hope Barc hold some of Trumps debt...may get us a better deal as they can threaten to call them in if we need to pay a huge fine.

Why not? It's a very different market at the moment to the one that we were in last year. The worst case for the DoJ fine is known, interest rates are likely to rise, the pound is weaker (increasing the value of US earnings in the UK), consumers are still borrowing money and Trump is likely to seriously reduce all of the red tape that banks currently have to comply with (Frank-Dodd, MIFID & Sarbanes Oxley). Barclays has never stopped making money, they've just been hit with fines year after year which has wiped those out - now we're moving into a post-fines era we'll start to see a healthy profit again. The average PE ratio for the banking sector is about 4.5 against an historical average of 11-12 so an increase of 50% from the share price today doesn't seem such a big hurdle. I would not be surprised if we are in the £4-£5 territory in 2018.
