31/10/2014 11:53 | The current withholding tax is 21% - this is due to come down to 20% then 19% over the next couple of years. IC mentioned the bilateral UK-Spanish tax treaty which came into force in June and in theory reduces the rate down to 10%. When I've looked into this in the past the costs of reclaim don't make it financially viable. | dendria
31/10/2014 09:38 | Unfortunately neither of my brokers(in ISAs) will elect for the scrip from Santander, take the dividend only is their answer. | cwa1
31/10/2014 08:31 | If you wrap these shares inside an ISA account you can sell off a few shares each year to create the cash in dividend form and only have dealing charges rather than 18% withholding tax | acamas
31/10/2014 08:10 | CWA1 - I read this - they have withholding tax as ones of the 'cons' but no mention that the dividend is a scrip. I take the IC but they really should do more homework. | dendria
31/10/2014 07:51 | Morning Time to sell, BNC has been tipped by the Chronic :-) | cwa1
27/10/2014 08:07 | Thanks Nielsy Acamas and dendria for further information which I will pass to my friend. Regards, Ben | fernandesb
26/10/2014 12:32 | ECB Stress Tests: SAN has a core capital buffer of 10.34% (a buffer of above 8% is required to pass the test). BBVA has a core capital buffer of 8.97%. Still digesting it all - an executive summary would have been useful - there probably is one but I haven't found a useful one yet. | dendria
23/10/2014 16:27 | That is what I suspected might be happening but you can never be sure. The slim possibility exists that the shares might have been sold at some earlier stage and all that was left was the 10 or so share entitlement in another small cash saver account the person may have had as well. As we seem to agree I hope the outcome is that the shareholder finds they have a nice little earner from re-investing the dividends instead of taking the cash | acamas
22/10/2014 09:09 | You are welcome it was no trouble | acamas

22/10/2014 08:13 | Something is not right there! How often does he or she get £5? Over the year Santander pay a dividend of around 50p per share. So if your friend is only getting £5 per year then it would seem they only hold about 10 shares. If you are in the UK go into your nearest branch of Santander and discuss the item with one of their assistants they will give you the telephone number of their sharedealing arm if they cannot help directly Another question to ask on this matter does your friend get shares instead of a dividend so the £150 he used to get is now an extra 30 Santander shares per year | acamas
21/10/2014 18:23 | I wonder if anyone on this Board would be kind enough to help me with some information.A friend of mine who owned shares with the old Abbey National wanted to know how he could sell his shares,I do not know how many shares he holds, however he mentioned that before the "takeover" he used to get dividends in the region of £150 he only gets about £5 at the moment. Is Santander quoted on the spanish market at the moment? | fernandesb
