06/3/2015 07:12 | The buys and sells are just guesswork depending on the deal price so may not be correct. Also good news and a price rise may cause some to sell, but the share price will still rise. | dr biotech
05/3/2015 19:52 | Could someone explain to me the disparity in the share price when the sells outweigh the buys by more than 2:1 & the share price goes up? | thales1
05/3/2015 19:04 | LOL UPP. I had enough to clear my mortgage back in 1987. Just a bit more I thought and we can move to a bigger house - then Black Monday came along and it all vanished in an instant. I was desperate to sell anything to close out positions and conserve a bit of cash. I hadn't told Lady Gnome how well I was doing and never had the courage to tell her I had lost the lot! It was a paper fortune and it burned. | lord gnome
05/3/2015 18:55 | keyhole - I had a £14 target on GA shares, I think they went to about £13 or so, £14 would have cleared my mortgage back then in the 90s... I still have a mortgage.. | uppompeii
05/3/2015 18:37 | Before we get carried away with the current SP, my records show that, before the company changed its name to AVIVA, it was over £10! So we have a long way to go. | keyhole
05/3/2015 18:37 | What a lovely day to be an Aviva shareholder and a FLG shareholder. Not often you get that sort of reaction to results. Definitely a good reason to crack open a bottle of something nice this evening. I've been holding on to my FLG shares and wondering if I had done the right thing. Masterly inactivity on my part has paid off for once. If Aviva is still improving, I may just force myself to hold on for another 12 months to see what comes along. | lord gnome
05/3/2015 18:25 | Well I cashed in my holding, however they may be a bit more upside and if there is I will short. | finess
05/3/2015 17:28 | Eastbourne1982 - I hope you made some profit on the fall back and closed out the short in time, it has been a while since Aviva delivered a nice positive on results day, not sure any of us expected a decent jump like this. | uppompeii
05/3/2015 16:16 | Decent volume also today! It looks like I was a bit hasty selling FLG @405 last month, but still have a reasonable holding here. | skinny
05/3/2015 16:07 | Todays reaction to the results has been acceptable :-) Think AV is probably now my biggest individual holding by value. Will have to check once the bell has rung. | dr biotech
05/3/2015 15:16 | Yes, I sold a bit too soon but still have a good holding in SL., some from flotation. | philo124
05/3/2015 14:58 | Brilliant ! | chinese investor
05/3/2015 14:57 | I had originally intended to buy just before results on 5th March, but happened to see the following article beforehand that 'wrongly' suggested AV's results date had been brought forward: So bought on 24/02/15 and like you, saw the price drop each day during the following week. However, 'All's well that end's well', so we can't complain. 'Viva Aviva'. | mazarin
05/3/2015 13:57 | I agree Dr Biotech, at least we have a little harmless banter here in the quiet times, and yes mazarin, you did help tip me into a purchase, it fell a little but all good now...for a while... :-) | uppompeii
05/3/2015 13:50 | Uppompeii re: Post's 217439/40 Are you happy with your decision today? I felt a bit responsible at the time. | mazarin
05/3/2015 13:07 | Thanks UPP. I do still read what goes on here but as with all the forums the less volatile the share the less people post about it. Under Moss this forum was buzzing as you never knew what the next disaster would be. It has been a boring but much sounder investment over the last couple of years. Pretty much what the CEO said he would turn it into. I have no reason to sell these - it will be interesting to see what happens with the merger, I am guessing this time next year we will be looking back at another decent year | dr biotech
05/3/2015 12:39 | A gap up on the results takes the share price back to the rising Median Line. If the gap is to be a 'runaway' or 'breakaway' an increase in volume is required to push the share price further up. If no increase in buying volume the danger is a fall back in share price due to profit taking. Next target is 600. | bracke
05/3/2015 11:24 | Life insurer Aviva's latest full-year results provided a small beat with respect to consensus on nearly every key metric. That drove the firm's IFRS net asset value figure to 274p per share, ahead of broker Panmure Gordon's estimate of 240p. The results benefitted from positive back book actions - worth £282m - which offset the approximately £200m of headwinds primarily from UK annuities and FX. At £1,979m the firm's life business performed better-than-expected at the operating profit level. Analysts had pencilled in £1,938m. In parallel, the value of new business on a PVNBP basis rose 15% on a constant exchange rate basis to reach £1,009m (consensus: £906m). The company's combined ratio of 95.7% also came in ahead of forecasts. Following on from all of the above, analyst Barrie Cornes maintained his target price of 660p and 'buy' recommendation on the shares | broadwood
05/3/2015 09:42 | Still holding. I also hold the Gaca pref share which also have had a great run. Like the divi increase. | mac15
05/3/2015 09:16 | Well done Dr Biotech. As you may know since the collapse a while back I chose to trade some of my holding for various small targets. I still held a good percentage even through the pain. I've done slightly better by trading but in hindsight not worth the time, stamp duty and b/o spread - though of course it kept bracke on his toes. Nice increase in dividend, always a promising sign of genuine recovery. A pleasant thread too. | uppompeii
05/3/2015 08:51 | This has become a really solid, no surprise company. Wasn't long ago when you would have to brace yourself before looking at the results. Including dividends I am now more than 100% up on these, well done Mark Wilson and John McFarlane. And me of course. | dr biotech
