11/8/2007 09:10 | Sandbank: Well so it didnt today. Now look what happened the day before, the price fell sharply towards the close, so there was a very good chance that it would have done that today. In fact it did the same the day before that too. As for karting, havent done it for years. Also never heard of sandbanking as a hobby | prokartace
11/8/2007 07:08 | PROKARTACE: I'd stick to pro-carting if I were you. | sandbank

10/8/2007 15:04 | buffett says hedge funds were forced to shut their short positions pdq forcing some shares to rise, the real danger is not that banks will run out of cash to pay dividends but further mar, jitters about exposure to sub-prime will makes shares even cheaper in a few wks time what next? the death of a few hedgies these coming wks will create more space for real investors to survive, those that do survive face the likes of roberto gracy and his lawyers V amaranth | mike24

07/8/2007 16:07 | Prokartace and Ccnp I shall explain.I do not know an awfull lot about Avis, but the hole in accounts in Portugal does not surprise me,I lived out there for a while and found on the buisness side to be lets say difficult,it is plane to that the share price has been hit hard buy that event.I can see Avis has a lot of debt also, but bearing this into account the share price is atractive at the moment,is this not the time of year that Avis make a greater revenue? The pending strike by the rail drivers could give a big boost to Avis as Germany is there biggest market, any thoughts on this? How much real estate do they own?or do they rent most of it?Surely the need to rent will increase as car sales decrease.Shorts must of been closed for a rise like this, and the very large buy orders resently now coming on to stream as delayed buys?MMs have a world of there own. | minho
07/8/2007 14:44 | sure would like to know why you say that minho. they sold the greek business this time to make the numbers. what next ? and let's not forget they ar something like 60% owned by someone who paid £1.20. 27/7/2007 18:55 | I have watched this for a long time but I dont know how you could make a rational case to buy until the outcome of the "trading irregularities" are known. I must say I find it amazing that the company has not come back to placate the market. I will keep watching but will not do anything until I am clear as to what has happened in Portugal. | salpara111

15/6/2007 10:05 | From FT yesterday/today Avis Europe provided the speculative interest in the FTSE 250. Shares in the troubled car hire company advanced 4.1 per cent to 57¼p on rumours that its biggest shareholder, the Belgian company D'Ieteren, might team up with a buy-out group and take Avis private. Traders said this had sent hedge fund scurrying to buy back their short positions. | typo56 |
