Techinvest featured AVN as one of three companies in their 'Bouyant Space Industry' write-up. Reckons this sector is overlooked at the mo. and has attractive growth prospects over the next few years. Nice news flow here recently.

from last year's accounts ...
Depreciation is the largest single operating expense in the income
statement, as the satellite assets are depreciated over their
warranted lives of 15 years on a straight line basis. Satellite
depreciation is charged to costs of sale and depreciation on
all other assets is charged to operating expenses. The total
depreciation for the year was $49.6 million (2013: $39.6 million).

==============

Expenses almost double from year to year as a result .....

All the same turnover in q4 was up by 75% on q3 and at $31.1m was equal to the turnover for the first six months.
As costs are mainly fixed ebitda should be looking good for q4.
Interesting that cash balance was down by $30m at end of quarter on previous quarter as I do not think that any payments were due in the quarter for Hylas4.
Main thing for me is concrete sign of increased traction in sales.

Am I being stupid, or is the trading announcement meaningless. It says Q4 includes non recurring revenue. Unless that is quantified, it would appear impossible to ascertain the underlying continuing revenue rate.

Another useless RNS. Management must know the amount of non recurring revenue,so why not say it.

Or do they love smoke and mirrors!

Why did they change from GDP to USD last year ?

Purely for a hedge?

With an RNS as tasty as todays reads why is this share heading below 200 again?
More research needed obviously ...

Added recently. Good coverage by Techinvest in the last 2 issues. AVN makes their 2nd half Best Buy tips with a rating of 6. They've also added 4k shares to the Trader Portfolio. dyor

won't do us any harm, except I have noticed the date on the article is 2011 , though the Telegraph page appears to be dated today???? Hope they still think the same?

Wilksey they are buying at knock down prices so the fact there is a lot of them is not really relevant. I'll never begin to understand Avanti - my first experiences saw the price rise from £5 to £7 pre Hylas #1 launch - Hylas #1 went perfectly but the price dropped to £3.50 rather than rise to £9 as I'd hoped.

I look forward to loads of buys as the price rises - maybe after Hylas #3 if that goes as well as the other launches.

It's only about 3%; to be honest,it's more likely just reflecting the state of today's market, most of my shares are down by similar amounts.

Price drop due to an unsuccessful launch (exploded!) in the US which does not really reflect upon the chances of Ariane but what does that matter on the AIMS market?

Hylas-3 is fully insured if my memory serves me well but hopefully Ariane will maintain it's splendid success rate and give us the flexibility that 100% moveable beams offer.

Shame SXX is languishing prior to Planning Permission meeting tomorrow - this could have offered a chance to switch shares at a peak and a trough (maybe).

AVN have rallied already so back to £2 plus and the bargain is disappearing a bit.

Competition ? Article states over 3 years to go before they launch first satellites , and they're yet to raise hundreds of millions .

Competition for Avanti?

Not clear from this report whether it will also serve Africa.

Agreed, but perhaps the MPs had been briefed to raise the matter in parliament at Business Questions. Maybe Avanti or their PR flunkies were responsible for the briefing!

It shouldn't be a question of hope, standish, surely the job of the company or their PR people is to make sure movers and shakers such as MP's etc are fully briefed?

Back benchers voiced their disatisfaction in the House of Commons this morning with rural broadband service and pressed for an urgent debate with particular reference to satellite availability to improve speed and coverage. They were assured that the Government was aware of the situation and the matter was high up on their list of priorities. Perhaps we can look forward to a positive announcement in the forthcoming budget? One can but hope.
