01/12/2006 GAL: Wallenius Lines decides not to exercise its option to acquire an additional 60% stake
Story Wallenius Lines has today released the following statement with regards to its option to purchase an additional 60% of GAL.
As announced on 31 July 2006, Wallenius Lines entered into an option agreement with TNT and AutoLogic granting Wallenius Lines the right, but not the obligation to acquire their 60% shareholding in Global Automotive Logistics SAS (GAL).
Wallenius Lines has today, 1 December 2006, decided not to acquire the option of 60% shareholding in GAL since the necessary requirements for such an agreement have not been fulfilled.
Wallenius Lines' joint venture company Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics will continue to be an active 40% shareholder in GAL, in its aim to find a long term sustainable financial solution for GAL.

Interesting stuff JB - I guess we should get new re: GAL pretty soon. I have CFN, TRX, ARG and NLR. All pretty much value plays apart from Caffe Nero - bid situation.

Lets hope the paperwork is signed tonight!

EKA, SCE, PTR, KIM, ALG.
Was watching for long time, but didn't buy till announcement about GAL.It was clear to me, that France pushing share price down. Summer time all auto sector has been hit so as ALG, then recover. If you compare Charts alg and auto sector ,you will see how similar they are( have a look from may till sept. this year.). Right now sector went down because of USD and all American economical situation. That is why IMO alg share price down now. But I may wrong.;-)
ALG, KIM and SCE I choose for long investment.

How about you?

They are not clear from GAL yet - Wallenius bought the right to purchase the shares but have not done so yet. GAL's bankruptcy has been extended for 3 months so the situation is uncertain. That is why the price is dropping. It should be temp but most thought Wallenius would exercise the option.

How did you get into Autologic JimBim? What other shares are you keen on?

So the option must be exercised before 1st December!
The option for Wallenius to purchase Autologic's share of GAL (and pay £6m) must be exercised before 1st December. I'd imagine uncertainty over this is causing todays slide?
----------------------------
That is exactly what I can't understand. If they now clear from Gal ,+ 6m, they must go up, do they? Why do you think it should go down? Can you explain your opinion please.

skyship - hard for me to understand your charting - bit too technical for me - however I agree that this might be over-bought without some kind of progress on the Gal front. Hopefully JB's prediction is more accurate. Property backing + low pe means this is cheapish - just debt and gal in the way.

IMO you can't compare share price from year ago as they was under the pressure from GAL . That why I think chart here useless. Personally think it may go up till 160-80 this year.Just feeling ;-)

Another good rise....but heading into Spring'06 resistance area and also top of the short-term trendline. Without a bid this may be over-bought & top heavy in the short-term.

Got to be good news - the management seems pretty shareholder focused anyway. Suppose GP could always take the whole thing private if the public turnaround doesn't work - like Coats.

In addition to their 18%, Guiness Peat now have a non-exec. Don't tell me he's not there to extract a little value!

Investor's Chronicle says high enough - a lot hanging on the GAL option + lots of expensive mezzaine debt. I'm still happy to be in.

Thanks catandcrow.
100 prc., agree with you.
Still think end of the year gives 120-140p.p.s. And in long terms 2007-08, 300p.
Good luck to You.

Hi JB - f they continue to dispose of non-core asset and pay down the debt v. good. If the GAL option is exercised I'd imagine this will lead to a imediate movement in the share price. + if you read the annual report they have assets such as property on the books below market value. Guiness Peat have recently bought 18% and they certainly do pretty serious research before investing. This will take a bit of time to play out but should give a good return. This is a good business with the European operation masking the profitability of the UK side.
