Would be nice if it were - the chart has looked gloomy for a long while. The recent numbers were a bit mixed but seemed okay overall, yet the mkt didn't respond well.

This certainly looks like the beginning of a decent 2-3 year recovery, look forward to some decent upside on the contracts..

That's exactly my point cnx. We need to get over that particular hurdle before we see any decenmt upside. How and when that will happen is holding us back IMO.

boystown, gingerplant

in order to get "development value ", there may be "costs". i wonder what impact these may have on cash flows before any value is realised?

Boystown - FWIW, I agree, but it'll take time. They'll need to prove it first. A lot will depend what progress thay're able to report about the future and the £14m financing with the finals on 8 Dec. But I agree that the valuation seems to make little sense.

The company has told us that the Glenmuckloch mine near Cumnock in Ayrsire is reaching the end of its life.

Does anyone know what the plans are for the site once closed - and what it's on the books at / whether TH own the freehold?

After all, the reserves have a gross value of £306m and the NTAV exceeds the mkt cap - but what about the development value of the site post-ops? Not bad for a co. with a mkt cap of £22m still to receive £17m over the next 7 years - or am I missing something obvious here? Personally, I can't see why it should be any less than c.£50m / well over twice the current level.

Thanks GP

I'm rather on the fence - a small holding but wary about the recent share price movements as if some investors know a bit more than the wider public.

rereading the trading update, it looks as if we have to wait til end next year for positive results, or a disastrous (for me)takeover at a giveaway price

You mean apart from the massively undervalued mkt cap..!!

Will be interesting if the buying continues this week..

A couple of decent sized buys recently.

Any chance of some blue one day?

Mentioned in the Independent the other day, yield 5.6% on the reduced numbers:

ATH said it would pay a final dividend of 2p a share, bringing the full-year dividend to 3p – not bad for an Aim-listed company, but well below the 6.15p a year ago.

In all seriousness I do think a bid approach is highly likely..

The operative words being the last two.

Even if this statement is an attempt by the new management to get all the bad news out at once, it remains one more disappointment in a long progression of poor information, late disclosure of problems and general non-delivery.

Unless of course the geological problem came to light on 29th September.

Fairfax summary:

Conclusion: Clearly the results are going to be disappointing and the cut in the dividend will no doubt impact the share price as this has long been a yield story. The company doesn't appear to be in any longer term difficulty as its reserves are now at a higher level than ever before. We hope to see the working off of low priced long term contracts to give close exposure to the current high priced coal environment, and that the year ahead will have an easier winter allowing the company to get back on track, fingers crossed.
