Got to be said, a rubbish 2015 for the sp, down now almost 15% ytd and looks as though we`ll have to go to 2670p for any sort of support.... then 2470p if it all goes wrong, which by this afternoon`s performance looks likely.

Interims in-line; FX easing FY guidance

April 21 2015 Morning briefing

SECTORS: Foods

COMPANIES: Associated British Foods

DAVY VIEW

Results are in line with expectations, with each division except Sugar seeing a profits advance. While trading guidance remains unchanged for the full year, negative FX means ABF is guiding for a “modest” decline in adjusted EPS, compared to previous guidance for a “marginal” decline. Primark sentiment remains the dominant driver for the stock and in that regard growth plans remain on track to accelerate into 2016 with the US launch. The stock has withstood a profit collapse in Sugar over the last two years, but Primark growth should materialise in much stronger group growth in 2016/17.

Primark sales up 15% but like for likes flat

21 APRIL, 2015 | BY TARA HOUNSLEA

Primark has reported that like-for-like sales were level with last year for the 24 weeks ending February 28, after being hit by the unseasonably warm weather in Europe during the autumn and the impact of opening new stores in the Netherlands and Germany on existing stores in the region

Telegraph market report.

"......Conversely, downbeat analyst comment pushed clothing-to-sugar conglomerate Associated British Foods 43p lower to £28.63 amid caution ahead of Tuesday's half-year results.

“Primark has had a fairly slow start, by its own standards, with like-for-like sales, which we estimate to be flat, impacted by the warm autumn in Europe and margins impacted by higher mark-downs, but reported sales should stay strong,” analysts at influential broker Bernstein forecast. “Meanwhile, sugar has been impacted by a further large drop in the EU sugar price, such that it should only just break-even in H1.”

Tuesday preview: Primark and sugar in focus as Associated British Foods reports half-year results

......"After past exuberance, the shares have been far duller of late, although given Primark portance it would only take some pluses here (e.g. more news on planned US expansion) for them to revive and next full-year too Sugar EBIT ought to begin to rebound off a depressed base," Numis said...

Ending around the lows of the day. Doesn`t seem to be much confidence in ABF regardless of the recent good press and brokers.

If 2816p goes tomorrow may well be able to pick them up at the november support around 2670p - that`s if charts tell you anything at all ;-)

Associated British Foods to reveal bittersweet results

Robust sales at Primark are expected to be offset by weak sugar prices, a strong pound and the effect of the supermarket price wars when owner Associated British Foods posts its half-year results tomorrow.

The FTSE100-listed firm said in a February trading update that these factors would lead to "a marginal decline" in its full-year earnings.

Brokers at Numis forecast that, at the half-year stage, this will translate to a 2.8 per cent slip in adjusted pre-tax profits to £455million.

Discount fashion retailer Primark said its sales for the six months to February 28 were about 16 per cent higher on the same period a year ago.

However, this eases to a 12 per cent rise when the strong pound is taken into account.

Analysts at Nomura said: "We think Primark's formula of low prices, prime locations and quality retail environments are an unbeatable traffic-driving method." Associated British Foods also runs operations in agriculture, grocery and ingredients. Its brands include Ryvita, Ovaltine, Silver Spoon, Kingsmill and Patak's.

'Primark opening in La Canada Marbella has big problems'

Opening of clothing chain Primark in the shopping center La Canada in Marbella hangs in the air because of lack of building permits.

No fewer than 200 jobs are at risk, after Marbella municipal leaders ordered to stop the renovation of the premises in the shopping center La Canada. It has refused planning permission on the grounds that the shopping center La Cañada has reached its maximum surface.

The clothing chain Primark signed last year an agreement with the management of the shopping center La Cañada to open its third store in Málaga province, in an area of 6.500 square meters, if they do not reach a solution to the building block, the project can then be wound down. Property Marbella, the clothing chain Primark is already in Malaga and Fuengirola.
