why are the shares going up? why did they go down? How far will they go up? Will they go down again? Do they have any oranges left? Does it matter? These questions, and more, will be answered in next weeks episode.....

maybe they are just out of bad news? I mean, how much worse can it get? Oh, hang on, there's always the coming of "El Nino" to conjure up as another excuse of some disaster or other.....

I take your point Varies, but why would there be such high turnover - 95 million yesterday. There would be no need to rush in, buyers could take their time in building up a decent stake.

I had some shares in Tinci Holdings, bought many years ago at c.80p, which fell all the way to 4p. The Chinese directors, owning some 70% of the capital, made an offer out of the blue at 20p a couple of months ago putting small shareholders like myself out of our misery.
It is certainly possible that something similar may happen here but I think a more likely reason for the recovery from 6p to 10p in our share price is that the Chinese have tired of the bad news and are looking, as I am, a couple of years ahead. The new plantation should be in production then and the present woes behind us.
Had it not been for the typhoon and the canker, ACHL would now be producing profits and paying dividends that would justify a much higher share price. The damage suffered is indeed substantial and has set us back several years but the business is essentially sound.

A lot of selling going on here, but the price is holding steady - suggests someone in Hongkong is mopping them up.

Given that 95 million shares were traded in Hong Kong clearly they know what London investors don't know. And with it unlikely to be any positive trading news, unless the recent announcement proved to be a gross over estimate, you have to say that someone is making a takeover move, with I suppose the current directors the obvious prime candidates. It can be argued that the company needs their cash for the reconstruction of their plantations, but a number of shareholders have questioned why no share buybacks have been made as at the low levels this share has reached it would seem likely to be earnings enhancing. If the directors are seeking to take it private then ignoring the need for reconstruction cash for a moment, why would the directors want to spend cash pushing the price up when they were going to make a takeover move.

Is it just the Chinese share boom causing this? Takeover rumours? - this Co. is certainly ripe for takeover at this distressed price.

+20%.Why so quiet?I would have thought conviction bears like envirovision and hereford would be here urging posters to go short at the higher levels.

Holders should hope for more doom and gloom since it seems to be pushing the price up.

If they can't forecast the crop then they can't forecast revenue and hence EBITDA. They have forecast it in the past but seem to be saying things are to uncertain at the moment. The Feb conference was very gloomy

oh sorry, wrong stock post above, that was for ALY.L

JIMCAR - What do you mean they don't have an EBITDA target? It isn't possible to run a business without an EBITDA target. They can't be that clueless surely?

I imagine some people are buying for the dividend. But with the need for a large amount of housing in the UK, there must be a knock on effect for furnishings. Also I believe they are doing very well in India, though perhaps that is franchised.

I don't think there is one. On the Feb conference call they say the problems with the trees make forecasts of crops impossible so presumably EBITDA is impossible too. It wasn't very inspiring - all the questioners were begging for some glimmer of hope but not getting anything.

bpg was supposed to contribute a lot of profit from memory, when I saw the management once in London, they talked a lot about moving up the value chain, as well as how popular their orange brand was in the supermarkets in china. I was wondering what the 2015 ebitda target is, do you know?

no, im based in Hereford, but I asked someone in china. Anyway, the ebitda forecast / plan is of more importance

"I haven't seen any of their juice being sold, yes, I see they record it in the annual report, but in the shops I mean"

Are you based in the PRC Hereford29? The reason you may not have seen the juice in the shops there is explained in the accounts.

"BPG currently generates most of its sales from the PRC market, with key customers being beverage mixers supplying major beverage groups."

I don't think they plan to change the BOD and top management of this company. 18pc affected sounds like a manageable amount, as long as it doesn't spread of course. I haven't seen any of their juice being sold, yes, I see they record it in the annual report, but in the shops I mean. Will they be profitable next year (EBITDA)? What is the ebitda target?

Wait for a change in BoD and top management

With these plant infections
What can be seen is only part of the problem
The rest may be dormant in the soil
