Three points short of a gap fill. Maybe tomorrow but that will be of little interest to those who inhabit this thread.

What maybe of interest, although again I doubt it, is to-day's volume. Quite a struggle but honours go to the sellers.

(ShareCast News) - Ashtead, the US-focused equipment rental group, was given a boost on Thursday by strong results and market commentary from US peer United Rentals. Second-quarter earnings from United Rentals beat expectations and the company upgraded its full year revenue and operating profit guidance. Commentary from management as the industry enters its busy season noted stronger volumes and "an improved rate trend" across the business. United enjoyed a rate impact of -1.2% in the second quarter, up from -1.4% in the first, and marking another period of sequential improvement from the depths of the -2.8% and -2.4% in the first two quarters last year. Analysts at RBC Capital Markets in London said these comments are likely to be in focus for its FTSE 100-listed rival and follow news of a Canadian acquisition earlier this week. "For Ashtead, this has been a key concern of the market, with a view that a negative rate environment inferred oversupply and therefore a slowing down of growth in the US (despite AHT demonstrating that rates have been flat and largely stable over that past 12 months)," RBC said. However, RBC said that even with rates flat or slightly negative, volume potential and the efficiencies of its scale should continue to drive margin growth for Ashtead. "We continue to like the structural story, and with potential for additional capital returns," the analysts added, pointing to a 12.9 price/earnings ratio for the 2018 calendar year for a two-year compound annual growth rate in EPS and DPS of 13% and 12%.

OK sbet allowed.

Good question about reaching the ML. A couple of points.

1 The previous price action. ie. the gradual selling which took the share price down and then the large up candle on Monday. Bearing in mind the fundamentals(I typed that word through gritted teeth) there was nothing to cause the fall other than 'games'.

2 Yes the probability that the share price would reach the ML but not in the manner it did with a large gap.

Taken as a whole it smacks of contrivance.

Obsession me obsessed. Just 'cause I know this share has it in for me and I want revenge doesn't mean I'm obsessed, unhinged maybe.

Claim too many of those and you'll be needing "a dental trip "....

Is the reference to a 'dentist trip' relating to 'gap filling'?

If so I claim my prize of the usual mars bar!

Bracke "Don't profit warnings come in threes?"

Yes that's what I was trying to understand.
We know it happens so often in all different types of business so to delay bad news must be a part of the human condition rather than just the financial functions of any given company....

2 flat "hoping for a dental trip, so I can jump in again"

is the dental trip - actually a trip to the dentists which is going to cost so you need to jump in again to make a profit to pay for it

or is it, like it reads, another stock market term a la "head and shoulders" that I have not heard of ?

Nice to see AHT in the ascendancy again.

I am reading "Great URI figs out after the close last night with increased guidance for the year. Stock up about 4% in the after market. "

Might explain the rise today?

EDIT: URI Results:

Still cannot find any financials for CRS.However, based on a couple of recent UK acquisitions (Liontrack Hire and Mather & Stuart), their purchase price came to twice their respective annual revenues. So whilst a bit of a finger in the air, the revenue for CRS could be circa £89m pa.Guess once the deal has been finalised over the next few weeks that some additional information will then be released.Ashtead have targeted 5% of the Canadian rental market, the forecasts were for $4.9 billion turnover for 2016 rising to $5.8 billion by 2020 (see link below). If they achieve that target then that's an additional £150m revenue pa (+5% of last FY).Acquisitions were £437m last FY, wonder how much this FY?.hTTps://www.constructionequipment.com/equipment-rental-revenue-set-top-57-billion-2020DD

Last week I updated my AHT chart with a new Pitchfork. To-day the share price has gapped straight to the ML. There was an 80% probability that it would do so but I didn't expect to reach that level until the end of the month.

Continuance above the ML is 50/50.

The highest closing high was 1751 which is the logical next target.
