'TA turned fundamentalist'? My apologies,I got a bit carried away and meant no offence.

I am also expecting to hear from that nice Mr Trumps lawyers, and possibly 'Vlad the Impaler' (umbrellas our speciality) as well, so I am anxious not to make any further enemies!

As for post 53121, it was a duplicated post, and so I removed it, honest guv!

I looked for companies offering good dividends and then selected based on chart analysis. I didn't want to include on my list shares where the chart was suggesting a top or reversal.

In the meantime the share price is still very attached to 1600.

I note URI is also very much in sideways mode.

Now then.... what I want to know is what you posted at 53121 but then deleted. It received a 'thumbs up' so come on what was it another froggy comment?

I gave him a list of shares offering good dividends. He's ok with those and I keep an eye on them for him.

The analyst is someone representing the bank which has a sell recommendation at 730... I rest my case!

As for you friend, he obviously is in urgent need of advice as to how to make money out of AHT... Please feel free to give him my contact details, he obviously is in need of some good advice!

Perhaps the analyst was on 'work experience'.

Three years is a long time especially in the world of finance.

A friend of mine who buys shares but does not pay them much attention had bought some and told me that they had not gone up much. I asked him a few questions and found out he had bought them a couple of years previously. I looked at them to find that at one point they had doubled in value and then dropped back to his buying price!!

He doesn't like keeping an eye on his investments....I suggested maybe shares were not the best investment for him.

I am not suggesting you will do the same but it is a salutary lesson.

P.S. If you revisit the Dec webcast, look out for my favourite question from an analyst, from my favourite Bank, 'are the accounts solely in U.S. dollars and Canadian dollars?'

No just sterling and U.S. dollars (did you even read the interim accounts????)

You need to watch the 6th Dec webcast Q&As for Geoff Drabble's explanation regarding the difference between recent locally agreed and financed infrastructure initiatives, and the Trump bluster.

One example, Los Angeles has apparently recently agreed a round of funding for their local transport initiatives, whereas Trump's insistence that Mexico will pay for a wall has been rebuffed!

Three years out is a long time?? Not if your original AHT purchase was 19th Aug 1997!! Oh dear, we are in danger of starting another round of 'all our yesterdays' reminiscences which dominated the board recently.....

The one thing we can easily agree however is that 2017 is going to be interesting

I agree the market will give Trump time.

If infrastructure spend is financed at 'county' level why have they not got on with it previously, plus Trump said he would be spending $1 trillion on infrastructure.

My previous post was not from a traders viewpoint it was from an investors. Three years out is a long time and well into Trumps term in office (assuming he lasts that long!!). As we posted recently, 2017 is going to be an interesting year.

Good point, but I think that it will be some considerable time before Trump's rhetoric is displaced by actuality.

In the meantime I am encouraged by re-viewing Geoff Drabbles comments at the analysts briefing and Q&A session on 6th December where he pointed out that a lot of the infrastructure spend is financed and managed at 'county' level, e.g. Los Angeles transport spending initiatives, and are not dependent on Trump.

It might well be that there is a certain amount of froth in the AHT price at present, but my view is that fundamentally the company is still one I want to own.

Our different views may well be one of perspective .... I am looking 3 years out, it may be a trader's window is more like 3 weeks?

Always bear in mind sentiment and perception.

If Mr Trump fails to make good on his utterances relating to infrastructure the market will take umbrage against companies expected to benefit from the spend. Irrespective of business model or track record........ it's how the market works.

The share price

No follow through on yesterdays spikes and back down to 1600.

I think people are beginning to see Trump for the blowhard he really is - it is difficult to attach too much importance to his bar room blustering, and as for 'making America great again' USA influence seems to be visibly shrinking each time he opens his mouth.

Fortunately AHT has a proven business model and track record, I am banking on that, irrespective of any actions Trump may or may not make. DYOR

Mr Trump said quite a lot yesterday but as far as I am aware didn't mention infrastructure.

The share price closed yesterday back up at the top of the morning spike. There does appear to be some effort to move it up but a Director selling 62% of his share holding isn't helpful.

Glad to hear that you have survived Xmas, and come back with renewed enthusiasm!

I think that this year might be a year of opportunities, and as you say a very 'interesting' year. My own instinct is to keep my powder dry, and await the inevitable market dips.

In any event, good luck with your new refined trading method!

No change in methodology but I am aware of sentiment and overall direction of market momentum.

I do agree that moves on low volume can be misleading especially if the move is a large one but that is not the case with the share price

I was a little surprised when I looked at the share price this morning. Given the fall in the £/$ I had expected the share price to have moved above 1600, somewhat odd that it didn't.

Being an advocate of the 'bah humbug' form of Christmas the bracke household does not indulge in seasonal excesses. However advantage was taken to review, reconsider and revise my trading method.

I am now back in harness with some moderate trading.

Considering Brexit, Trump and European General Elections, 2017 promises to be a very 'interesting' year.

Thanks for your reply.
Hard as I try without your explanation I looked but could not see.
Do I note a change in your methodology , correct me if I am wrong but its the first time I can remember you citing brokers forecast's.
I am always nervous with moves on low volume.
If it move higher on low volume I will look to short at any sign of peaking duck.
Again thank for your ideas.
I've had my end of year look back and can report my best year ever.
Good luck for the New Year to all Holders and some shorter's.

Thanks dcarn. Don't know why they don't mention volume bought etc. on each buy back RNS.A 30p special div will do me if they decide not to buy at these levels.DD
