2m delayed trade yesterday and another at 650k. Someone quietly accumulating.

For now I do agree with Mac, notwithstanding long-term I'm still positive on ASA, I was disappointed with the last update - they're now 6-9 months behind where I thought they would be at this stage and next quarters will be particularly critical.

a) Nickel: whilst not unexpected there's delay to Smelter, didn't think update would be so open-ended to the entire FYE Mar 2018. And again whilst I thought funds to cover Re-deepening was a risk, it's now there in black and white regarding financing options being looked at to fast track project.

b) Gold: Freda's large Mill No.1 is now likely to be decommissioned, not fixed as previously thought. The 2x large mills plus 2x smaller mills at Freda were to bring the milled capacity up to 1.8m tonnes by now, finally in line with mined capacity and achieve gold target of 70-100K Oz/ yr. With large mill No.1 still out of action, new plan as per RNS is to add further mills (sourced from within the group again) over the next 6-12 months. It's good to see this is still a priority, but it pushes the target of 70-100K Oz back further still.

c) Grades: another concern, but the RNS does imply it is "transitory", so will reserve judgement until next quarter.

On recent positives though, we have a big player with 4% (David Li Kwok Po, less shares in circ) and ASA will receive USD 4.5m this year in credits, substantially pushing down AISC (you can see what the 2016 1.3m credit did to Gold AISC in Q4 '16 - has a major positive impact). On PR side it's great receiving a Top Producer Award, particular in time of spurious court cases

Potential Positives
a) Zani-Kodo - outwith the usual quarterly reports, you never know when there could be a game-changer JV announcement.
b) Insurance claim: if ASA receive the claim of USD 3.6m+ and Nickel stays above 11K/tn, this might mitigate need for "financing options"?

Whilst I might be disappointed by some of the progress, I do like how management continue to be transparent in their quarterly reports to shareholders though and provide a large amount of required detail. Come a long way from the reporting we used to get.

If you thought Bobby was bad, Grace his wife is far far worse. And if you thought his days were numbered, she's going to stuff him and rule beyond the grave!

"Robert Mugabe could contest election as corpse, says wife"

Let's just hope the more moderate factions of Zanu-PF win the current in-fighting. However longer it goes on, the better Grace's chances become. Think it's too much of a leap to hope for actual democratic elections, but love to be wrong.

This Co. has more twists and turns than the Nurburgring...

But at least one, day, we'll get round the course, and Mugabe will be gone...

When that day dawns, the Nickel mine, smelter plans, and the production figures I suspect will all miraculously improve... (IMHO)

Good post Mac

Right to have a considered alternative opinion on here. Miners are very risky due to the various normal operational risk factors such as geology/engineering/commodity pricing etc Much of this is outside of the influence of Management. Furthermore on top of operational risk which is ever present you have the financial risk of the bonds (and unless you know the covenants nobody can assume it'll all work out alright, it is bonds (senior in the capital structure to equity) which can end up wagging the dog in these situations.

I think overall new Management is much better than Mpinga days of Empire building.
There have been some operational improvements.
Strategic partners brought in to take on copper exploration so we retain some upside exposure whilst reducing the hideous level of early stage exploration spending.
Commodity pricing looks to be back in our favour in medium term

Mac says it's always been a trading share (To him). I'm happy to hold my investment as the shares are becoming ever more tightly held. Good luck with your trading for a quick 10%. The big bucks will come for those that play the long game.

Q3 results were always going to be lack lustre, but the game is still very much on.

I suspect Q4 results will be better (worse is now behind us) and give them 6/12 months all the ducks will be lining up nicely.
This Co. has so much potential on so many fronts & the leverage aspects make it a very exciting investment.
The players with sizeable "skin in the game" are aligned with us wanting this to succeed & deliver multi bag returns. Patience needed.

The Chinese need 5p to break even. They'll want a nice profit. You're not alone with your current paper loss.

recent share purchase when these results would have been known suggests these results are of little consequence in the scheme of things . I am staying put and may add on any further unlikely drop

Results as expected. But they are historic. Commodity prices up since then and they're working on the AISC. Will be interesting to get movement on Zani Kodo and Copper. Note copper price approaching $3/lb so things should accelerate from here.

Davy and his cronies are getting a tighter grip. Hope the obvious doesn't happen. We need to see the real value unlocked first.
