13/3/2015 08:19 | I.C. today; Arrow on target Underlying profits grew 17 per cent at Arrow Global (ARW) last year, despite a dip in underlying return on equity from 26.5 per cent to 26.1 per cent. The company buys up distressed loan portfolios from mainstream lenders and uses its complex data system to increase returns from non-payers. The system allows the group to concentrate on ensuring people only pay back what they can afford. This is important because it helps create a working relationship with debtors to create a sustainable income stream from repayments. Around three-quarters of cash collections came from regular small payments, which in the UK averaged £24 a month. Arrow bought £138m-worth of loan portfolios during the year, but these had a face value of £1.3bn. This pushed up the estimated rental collection from the portfolio by £247m to £897m, based on a total loan book with a face value of £12.7bn. Further investments included the acquisition of Capquest, the UK’s fifth largest debt buyer, for £153m. The deal is attractive for two reasons: first, Capquest has a back book of estimated collections worth £224m; and, second, it has an in-house collection system, whereas Arrow has been using third-party collectors. As a result, Arrow expects cost synergies of around £6.5m on full integration. Analysts at Numis are forecasting pre-tax profits of £41.6m for 2015 and EPS of 20.3p (from £24.1m and 17p in 2014). Arrow Global’s shares are up since our buy tip (230p, 12 Jun 2014), yet still trade on an undemanding 12 times forecast earnings. JC Buy | cestnous
05/3/2015 13:31 | Thanks Glaws. | snowydays
05/3/2015 12:52 | The apparent discrepancy between forecast and reported Pre tax profit is down to the non recurring items. Excluding these gives a PBT of £36.9m compared to the forecast of £33.9m. The non recurring costs relate to the acquisition costs, IPO costs and "settlement costs", the latter being historic VAT issues and contract termination costs arising from acquisition of Capquest. | glaws2
05/3/2015 11:51 | Not sure what the profit before tax you are looking at but eps achieved was 17 compared to 17.2 which was the consensus estimate. | imranawan
05/3/2015 11:32 | Profit before tax quite some way behind forecasts. Looks like a big miss? | gohil18

30/1/2015 16:51 | Loopy stock this one. Rose on very heavy recent volume to the 230 mark yesterday and fallen back in the morning on very light volume (which would appear to be a genuine shake). Buyers in size then appeared in the afternoon with 100k @ 224 and 112k @ 225, which would bode well for next week. Sphere - punted a few for a trade on the long side | sphere25
