Just sold out, revenue at £5m is less than £5.4m in H1 and much less than expectations, market was pencilling in over £12m for the full year. Given this includes one license for 900k, the other 18 total only £4.1m. No growth at all and another full year loss.

Poor.

Ameer - Everything looks promising.

Sharescope has consensus EPS of 1.31p to 12/06 and 2.84p to 12/07. Stripping out cash and equivalents gives a pe of 6.51 and then 3!

Have I got my sums wrong or has the market yet to wake up to this company's potential?

This share has been turning round in the last few weeks.

In the first half of 2005, ARC passed the 100 customer milestone with 17 new processor contracts, a 55 percent year-on-year gain from the 11 licenses signed in the first half 2004. For the six months ended 30th June 2005 the consolidated balance sheet shows that the company had cash of £19.25 millions and short term investment of £13.80 millions, worth 23.84p per share, bringing total net assets to £35.47 millions. Net operating expenses declined further by 18% as net loss narrowed to £1.4 million. Cash usage in the first half of 2005 decreased to £0.5 million.

On 02/12/05 Legal & General Investment Ltd increased holding to 16,050,000 shares (10.78%). Fidelity Investments International also increased holding to 4,498,928 shares (3.02%) on 06/11/05.

Looks ready to finally bounce after low-volume MM-induced rapid fall - low reached of 28.5 was the exact Fibonacci 50% retracement of the entire move off the 14p low to the 43p high!

These news items do not appear on ARCs website yet.

Here's hoping this baby will do a SEG at some point. The management are looking very strong but still a problem with revenue.

Let's hope that Monica Johnson's departure (CFO) does not mean anything sinister is about to happen.

ARC says patents ready to protect configurability

Peter Clarke
EE Times
(08/03/2005 10:05 AM EDT)

LONDON - Earlier this year Arc International plc, a licensor of configurable processor intellectual property, was granted a series of patents, one of which it believes is fundamental to the use of configurable instruction sets within a system-level integrated circuit.

In an interview with EE Times Carl Schlachte, chief executive officer of ARC, noted that most major licensors of processors are now using the term configurable to describe some aspect of their processor offerings.

ARC was established as an independent company in 1998 and has had patents pending for a number of years, Schlachte said. ARC received four additional patent grants covering broad aspects of the company's products in March 2005. Chief among the recent awards was the grant by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) of patent number 6,862,563, which is fundamental to the design of a System-on-Chip (SoC) using configurable CPU technology, the company has claimed.

"The '563 patent is important. There's 14 more that have been granted. And we have 44 patents pending," said Schlachte.

When asked if ARC was letting rivals, such as ARM Holdings plc, MIPS Technologies Inc. and Tensilica Inc., infringe on its patents, Schlachte said: "ARM and MIPS endorsing configurability is a good thing."

He added: "We have a duty to investors to protect our position. We vigorously defend our intellectual property but we prefer to work with all companies to endorse configurability. We are, after all, an intellectual licensing company," Schlachte said.

When asked if discussions with other processor licensors were underway, Schlachte declined to comment.

If I'd looked at last weeks Shares Mag earlier I would have known about the rise but since I was away until Monday I couldn't see a reason for it!!

Not sure it warranted a 20% increase but it will probably fall back to the 31p-32p mark over the next week or two without any news at which point it could be worth picking up again.

breaking news..
ARC International (LSE:ARK) and IPWireless today
announced that IPWireless has taken a license for the configurable
ARC(TM) 725D processor core for use in their latest system-on-chip
(SoC) ASIC that is targeted for the company's next generation 3G
TD-CDMA broadband wireless devices. This will be the third in a series
of successful ARC-Based(TM) designs from IPWireless.
¶ With a best-in-class performance/size ratio, the ARC(TM) 725D core
is an ideal solution for high-volume wireless applications. IPWireless
selected the ARC 725D core for its impressive performance in a small
die size. The ARC 725D core has a maximum clock frequency of 400 MHz
in a 0.13 micron process, power consumption of 0.12 mW/MHz and a die
size of 0.96mm(2).
¶ "Given our previous success with ARC technology in previous
IPWireless products, the decision to standardize on ARC for our PCMCIA
cards was an easy one," said Roger Nichol, vice president of
technology at IPWireless. "The ARC 725D core is a key enabling
technology for our next-generation wireless card. It enabled our
design team to replace the function of two cores, saving valuable die
area and lowering overall product cost."
¶ "Our high-performance ARC 700 core family is ideal for demanding
processing tasks in size-constrained applications. IPWireless' use of
an ARC 725D core in their next-generation design illustrates the
significant cost advantages available through the use of our patented
configurable technology," said Derek Meyer, vice president of
marketing at ARC International. "IPWireless is a great example of how
industry leaders are standardizing on ARC technology for high-volume
applications such as wireless communications."
¶ IPWireless is a leader in the development of very high performance
packet-based wireless networks. The company's 3GPP-based TD-CDMA
technology leadership has resulted in the first commercial
implementation of an all packet-based UMTS network, the first UMTS
network designed specifically for broadband wireless, the first
end-to-end Release 99 TD-CDMA solution, and the first commercial HSDPA
chipset. IPWireless partners with leading device and infrastructure
manufacturers and integrators to offer end-to-end packet based UMTS
solutions. Networks powered by IPWireless technology are now deployed
around the world by operators offering innovative stationary, portable
and mobile services to subscribers.

¶ The ARC 725D Configurable Core

¶ The ARC 725D processor core is a full-featured high performance
embedded core with best-in-class die area and power characteristics.
It is designed to enable licensees to develop complete processor
solutions for SoCs targeted at demanding applications in consumer,
networking, automotive and other markets. The core's flexible,
configurable memory architecture makes it ideal for RTOS-based
applications. Powerful DSP options enable the 725D core to perform
more of the functions of the SoC, eliminating separate logic or DSP
blocks. Optionally, custom instruction extensions may be incorporated
to achieve application performance levels unattainable with fixed
architecture cores.

¶ About IPWireless

¶ IPWireless offers advanced standards-based mobile broadband
technology that drastically improves the way people connect and
communicate at home, at the office, or on the road. With a full range
of commercially available network solutions and devices based on the
UMTS standard, IPWireless allows operators to offer Complete 3G, a
spectrum of completely mobile, portable, or stationary packet-based
services with unmatched economics and true broadband performance. The
IPWireless Partner Program and chipsets allow device manufacturers and
infrastructure vendors to very quickly bring innovative new TD-CDMA
solutions to market. IPWireless is a founding member of the Global
UMTS TDD Alliance. For more information, visit the company's Web site
at www.ipwireless.com.

Don't think the Canadian reference would have caused it. Looks like general market jitters. ARM, MIPS, TTPCom, Imagination etc are all down as well, although ARC did manage a bigger drop today than the others. However, it had held up quite well and was due a fall.
