|Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta today received a progress report on the planned Early Oil Pilot Scheme presented at State House, Nairobi, by the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum and the Kenya Joint Venture partners comprised of Tullow Oil, Africa Oil Corp and Maersk Oil.
According to State House the partners they have confirmed to the President that their companies have approved the Final Investment Decision (FID) for the Early Oil Pilot Scheme (EOPS) that will see them utilise the existing wells in Turkana County to produce 2,000 barrels of oil per day.
The oil will be transported to Mombasa by road, an important step towards full field development of the oil discoveries in blocks 10BB and 13T in Turkana County.
|A special cabinet meeting in Kenya on Thursday approved plans to start production of 2,000-4,000 barrels of crude oil in Lokichar, the Daily Nation reports. The crude oil will be transported by both rail and road to Mombasa for refining. Oil was discovered in Kenyas Turkana County in 2012 by Tullow Oil and the country is now getting ready to full commercial exploitation of the product with plans in motion to establish business and infrastructure to market it abroad. President Uhuru Kenyatta who chaired the meeting also approved the development of the Lokichar to Lamu crude pipeline which will be the main transportation route for the oil from Kenya in the future. The first crude oil in Kenya will be refined at the Kenya Petroleum Refinery in Mombasa which has now been fully acquired by the government through the Kenya Pipeline Company. The Cabinet also approved ministerial budget priorities for the 2016/2017 financial year.|

Africa Oil has one of the best balance sheets within our international E&P coverage universe and one of the best asset bases (in terms of materiality and cost structure). This is a value name, even assuming the Brent forward curve. In addition, with an export route now independent from Uganda, taking the development of Kenya forward is likely to be much simpler. The likely restart of explora on drilling by YE16 in Kenya could act as a catalyst to the story. Adding a further 34 mmbbl of con ngent resources (gross) in Kenya would trigger the release of US$200 mm additonal carry from Maersk. While Africa Oil’s assets have a lot of running room, the firm is also funded through to first oil in Kenya.

SIMBA EXECUTES SEISMIC CONTRACT FOR BLOCK 2A IN KENYA
Simba Energy Inc., through its subsidiary company, Simba Africa Rift Ltd., has executed a contract with Africa Geophysical Services LLC (AGS), a company incorporated under the laws of the Sultanate of Oman, for the purpose of 2-D seismic data-acquisition and processing on block 2A in Wajir, Kenya.
Simba Africa Rift and its farm-in partner, Essel Group ME (EGME), have agreed that the 2-D seismic data-acquisition and processing program will cover approximately 500 line kilometres of survey, and it is expected that preliminary fieldwork and mobilization will commence in mid- to late April, 2016, with the full survey to commence in early May, 2016. It is expected that the work will take about 60 to 75 days to complete to be followed by interpretation of the data.
"We are pleased to finalize this contract and to commence the field work to obtain the necessary data. This will allow the company to plan a drill program later this year," said Robert Dinning, president and chief executive officer, Simba Energy.
The next phase of the exploration will see EGME and Simba Energy jointly acquire an oil drilling rig. "The drilling process will start as soon as we get a positive seismic result," commented Gagan Goel, MD EGME, vice-chairman, Simba Energy.|

US to Aid Kenya with Pipeline
Thursday, January 7, 2016
The US has expressed an interest in providing funding for Kenya’s pipeline linking the Tullow and Africa Oil’s oilfields in northern Kenya to Lamu. The pipeline was initially designed and planned to be funded by Chinese, however the US said it is ready to invest in the estimated Sh2.4 trillion in the project.
Robert Godec, the US Ambassador to Kenya, said his government would help secure funding to a tune of around Sh1.4 trillion towards the oil pipeline and power generation projects. Godec said US is also interested in funding expansion of electricity generation capacity and distribution which will help fast-track realization of ongoing power projects to meet growing demand.
Between Kenya and neighboring Uganda the region has an estimated 1.35 billion barrels of recoverable oil located out of reach of current infrastructure; new infrastructure, including an export pipeline, is required to enable commercialization of these discoveries.
For Kenya, “Commercially viable oil reserves were discovered in 2012 but to date nothing has happened which makes Kenyans wonder what happened. We are confident that the PowerAfrica initiative will help us realize our pledge to Kenyans,” said newly appointed Energy Cabinet Secretary Alfred Keter adding that extra funds will also be sourced through the Export-Import Bank.
Keter said a technical team comprising Energy ministry experts and the American government’s PowerAfrica initiative side will work out details of the pipeline and electricity generation ventures.|
