Hi SBK,

What odds I wonder against Trump not having secret long positions by proxy in a few sectors, including mining?

I won't deny that my dislike of Trump is increasing. Not "hate", as he's not worthy of my hatred. But his approach to the US economy reminds me of a dodgy businessman. Trump has after all bankrupted a few of his own businesses. He risks doing similar harm to USA.

Typically, he borrows heavily. Hence one of his nicknames, "King of debt". Then he pumps like crazy to sell the product, making all manner of unrealistic promises of how it'll change so many lives for the better, etc. It sucks the markets in. But if eventually it all goes badly wrong, chances are Trump will be long gone back to his golden tower &, presumably, more QE (in a way, a form of welfare for banksters & the elite), will be called for.

Re Aide-memoire: granted there's substance in what you say, still, we all have to plough our own furrow in markets, as elsewhere. ANTO's highest close in more recent years, 959 from 12 Feb 2014. To get significantly higher, ie. well over 1000 & as high as a return to 1600+, they'd need another copper super-cycle. We appear to be a very long way off from that.

But having already funded my account by a 4-figure sum to allow me to open new trades, for eg. in shorting UKX, I don't want to stretch my funds further. To add to my existing ANTO shorts, that's what I'd need to do. For now, I have quite enough exposure for a L/T hold.

Furthermore, as hinted at before, if I get out in one piece, that'll do me as regards shorting any mining stock. Never again! That's been decided. - Regards.

Hi Jack,

I'm prepared for it to be long haul before this goes south. But anything can happen any day with this SP, as we all know.

With the way my luck is running, however, I would not be surprised if Trump announced that he wants the 2000 mile long Mexican Border wall to be made from pure copper to give it an aesthetic shiny effect.

Regards,

P.S. I note that soi has done it again! Choosing a spoiling COMP entry too close to mine. He has also been cheating in the tough ANTO game by going away and making loads of dosh on oil. To be expected from a second hand car salesman, I suppose?

Hi SBK,

Thanks. That could prove to be a factor in turning things back in our favour. OTOH, things may also continue going the other way. ANTO still closing at levels not seen for a few years with a bullish 883.50 today, though volume not high. 2.84M is below average.

A snippet I've just posted on iii, which I think exemplifies why this sector really is a minefield of variables, uncertainties & extreme volatility which catches out even those whose business it is to know at least a bit more than the rest of us.

A recent article from 17 November, 2016. Of 22 banks polled, NO-ONE saw the copper price rally continuing:

Just about sums it up. - Regards

Simple thoughts:

If the strike spreads to ANTO it will have a much greater impact than that being experienced by BLT. The latter being much more commodity and geographically diversified. And even if the BLT strike is short-lived the workers are bound to win something, so higher costs for that company and this effect will no doubt spread to ANTO.

All out lads!

Good shorting times ahead.

Hi DS,

Never had you down for idle mischief-making. :o)

Thankfully, as yet, I'm not aware of talking aloud to myself in private. So the day I progress to doing so to alternative aliases on an internet BB, will probably be the time to sell everything & retire. ;o)

But if ANTO breaks out, that might take me out of the leveraged game anyway. No denying that Copper's recent rise looks a bit ominous.

Maybe needless to say, I've only entered SBK's entry as I've no conflict of interest whatsoever in Comp as I continue to flounder well down with the ineffably hopeless entrants. A bit of a change for me, but it is what it is.

However, if I was in the top 5 with a strong chance of winning, would I still enter SBK's entry? Hell, no! I'd be on to Goldie pronto demanding SBK's disqualification on the grounds that Comp should be open to iii members only. I'm sure SBK would expect no less from me. ;o)

IMHO,

All the best!

I notice that Jack has, rather a little too efficiently, entered SBK's comp entry along with his own.
I'm being to wonder if SBK is JD's alter ego and iii have rumbled it ?. It would certainly explain their actions......Hummmmm

HI Jack,

And respect.

As we all know the markets can remain irrational longer than an individual can remain solvent. Keep on controlling margins and be patient as a spider though, and it will all work out. The times will be a changing.

Anyway, meantime, here is some happy thoughts and some nice people:

Hi SBK,

I'm surprised iii still haven't given you the slightest explanation for the ban. That's the least any one has a right to expect. Just hope you're able to return soon now that nearly 2 weeks have passed, mindful of the mentioned Holocaust denier's 2-week absence on BP's BB.

Your 114 pts deficit with ANTO is quite enough, however, mine exceeds that by much more. So total empathy not in question. It's certainly affecting my ability to trade.

Also, with copper spiking today on bullish China data as well as looming strike impact, my concerns grow for next week. Today's 866 ANTO close the highest for well over a year. - Sobering that only late October we saw below 500.

I caught the article about the fool trying to burn a £20 note in front of an old homeless person. Contemptible as he is, I imagine it'll cost him dearly in the long run as his name & photo are all over the internet.

By contrast, apparently, the late Tara Palmer-Tompkinson once drove past a homeless guy. Though in a rush, she noticed he smiled at her. She drove a few minutes further, then reversed. She got out & gave the guy a thousand pounds. He gave her a hug.

Like most people, I only ever saw her in the press regarding her well-publicised excesses. But something about her resonated with me. Pity she didn't see a better outcome than, by all accounts, a quite lonely demise aged only 45.

All the best!

Hi Damps,

What I would like to see right now is for all ANTO workers to go on indefinite strike in sympathy with the BHP workers. Even better, would be a rumour of a threat by the Chilean Government to nationalize the country's entire copper mining industry.

Hi SBK,
Yes I meant 'pennant'. Eye sight, dyslexia and the ipaddy all conspire against me.
The top of the 'pennant' today is ~862p.
Which is were I had my sell order. Obviously it didn't get filled, so I now have a sell order @853p, which doesn't seem to be attracting any interest. In the meantime Soi is, no doubt scalping furiously in the 84x ees. range trading is his forte.
I hear what Jack is saying about risk of a rally to infinity and beyond (>900). and of course with a pennant formation it could break higher. However that is not my expectation. barring a major strike, mine closure, military coup etc. All of which are a definite possibility.

Hi SBK,

It's tough. The longer ANTO stays well above 800 & consolidates, the more likely it seems that it could climb to new recent highs. That's unless we get specific bad news. But nothing suggests that prospect is anywhere near imminent.

Needless to say, I carry quite a burden on the short side here. I doubt I'd continue holding if it flew well above 900.

Busy day away from desk here. But even a slightly lower finish here than yesterday's 827.50, as unlikely as it seems today, seems the best one dares hope for. - Regards & GL.

Tad "irritating" today with ANTO.

Early, I opened a 227 long to arrest my overall position, given the recent ludicrous spike. It then plummeted.

When it got to 808 I knew I should add long but did not because of the above.

Then, in wades Damps with a long at that very price, sending it zooming north. I got out of the early position at 229, with a bit of luck in the end. No doubt it will open at 239 in the morning.

But I did like Damps late afternoon reasoning:

"Funny ole day for the miners, and in particular ANTO.
£/$ ~stable, Cu ~stable. Indexes buoyant.
So why is ANTO so weak?
I think I can see a pendant forming. It started in the last week of Jan. and has a base @808. If it were to play out then we should see a failure sometime next week with a break below 808, with a target of ~760. Which, I think, coincidentally would give a oldish gap closure (762.5p)".

I'm assuming that he meant "pennant"? Otherwise we should enter some swing trades I reckon?

OK, I'll get my coat. Again.

Good evening myself,

Since I have been cast out of the real virtual world and disallowed from pontificating on any and all subject matters, I have taken up needlework. So, as I sew these mail bags in the iii House of Correction, I have time to plot.

One idea I have is to write to iii confessing all of my misdmeanours and, wanting out, demanding the removal of all the aliases that I have accrued over the past 17 years: soi, Eadwig, LK Hyman, Damp Seaweed, Jalopeno and vtec, etc. If those guys disappeared all of a sudden, at the same time, boy, wouldn't Jack hit the bottle PDQ?

Anyway, after much tussling I'm still down 80 points on this ANTO run. Was much worse. Fib charts beckon 785 sometime, but I need 750 to be really happy.

soi will get around to Ubiq with good advice soon on iii, explaining his game, which is:

Take a position at the wrong price, Wait until it gets right. Then close at the wrong price.

I'm still working at that.
