Rio Tinto

RNS Number : 9099Q
03 March 2016
...
Total coal Mineral Resources exclusive of Ore Reserves have increased from 5,429 Mt to 6,805 Mt. Increases to Mineral Resources are reported for:
· HVO Mineral Resources which has increased from 1,373 Mt to 1,831 Mt.
· Warkworth Mineral Resources which has increased from 475 Mt to 613 Mt.
· Hail Creek Mineral Resources which has increased from 172 Mt to 591 Mt.

· Winchester South Mineral Resources which has increased from 192 Mt to 356 Mt.

The coal upgrades have resulted from a programme of orebody knowledge and strategic mine planning optimisation undertaken at Rio Tinto Coal Australia.

Anglo-American reports a 2015 pre-tax loss of $5.5bn - more than double the previous year.

Anglo-American suspend dividend to conserve cash.

Yesterday, Moody's cut Anglo-American credit rating to junk status.

Head of Anglo-American has apparently said it will look to sell its coal mining operations as well.

Large write-downs.

Sector is clearly under a great deal of pressure.

ALL IMO. DYOR.

When you look at steel-making giant ArcelorMittal which just reported a jaw-dropping US$8billion loss last week, it reveals a disastrous period for steel-makers.

This is further bad news for the coal sector.

The oft-repeated mantra by certain parties that steel-making/coking coal is immune from large price swings/downturns would appear highly questionable.

ArcelorMittal said that they expect the steel markets for 2016 to be very tough as well. This is not a supportive market for coal in my view.

Neither electricity-making coal, nor steel-making coal.

ALL IMO. DYOR.

Hi Neil,
yes I got my divi, long may continue.

It will improve with time irrespective how much some posters are trying
their best to rubbish it.
APF is one of the best investments around.
It will get back to the ftse 350 in 3-4 years time.

Bolador,

I believe that you are a scoundrel, very sarcastic indeed and a bald-faced liar to boot.

Although your posts go back to October 2014, this is what you wrote last year in July (Post 7390 ) when the share price was nearer 90/100p:-

Interesting IEA forecast on coal posted by Piedro. And the rest of the world ?
Commodity markets are cyclical, there is nothing odd to see here, business as usual, move along.

Temporary lower demand, lower stock prices, opportunity knocks. That's what the boys and girls think at APF and I am along for the ride. Hopefully getting 7% pa whilst I wait.

I think it was in the late 1980's when oil traded at $10bbl and the Economist was looking for $5. Que Passa indeed.

Readers can draw their own conclusions about your clear lack of integrity and your blatant lies about your length of ownership of the share.

It is also more than comical that you suggest I display superiority when you are unable to acknowledge that President Obama is a dignitary or that anyone at COP21 is a dignitary "I cannot think of one worthy of the title".

Are you perhaps a very short man with a very big inferiority complex with several very large chips on his shoulder?

ALL IMO. DYOR.

QP,

Did I say I had been backing APF for a long time ? I have said many times that I have followed the share for a long time. As always, you have trouble with words.
I am on record as having bought stock recently at 53p and 57p, whilst you do not even have the guts to say whether you have ever bought or sold any stock or share.

As to dignitaries at COP 21 I cannot think of one worthy of the title,The President of France a socialist who crept around Paris on a scooter in order to cheat on his partner, that UN man another socialist nonentity, President Obama the man who lost the west, and Dave (!)are just a few players to be going on with.

Be sure, QP,there is nothing sarcastic in my criticism of you. From what you write I believe you to be a wicked individual with a disgusting sense of superiority.

calling nelly belly a drunkard and an alcoholic is not sarcastic.

it is realistic.

ps. if you don't want a battle, don't start one up in the first place, like you recently did again. Totally unprovoked, yet again.

boladaor, to defend QP regarding Neil, he does quite regularly post references to alcohol, often along the lines of "my first drink today is ..."

bolador, I bought at £14 a share so all fine so far. There is obviously quite a significant tail risk given the oil price outlook. However I think the chance of good long term success at that entry price is probably at least 80%.

RCTurner2,

How are you getting along with your purchase of RDSb ? Very tempted myself but do not want to be cannon fodder as you call the hapless private investor.
