Andes Energia Plans to Spin Off E&P Business

Andes Energia (LON:AEN) surged 20% to 67p during lunchtime trading after the company issued two drilling updates, and proposed a demerger. The first announcement updated on testing and fracturing activities on the Mata Mora concession, saying that the well YPF.NQ.MMO.x-1 discovered oil and gas in the Vaca Muerta formation in Argentina. The well found a Vaca Muerta thickness of 136 meters. During the initial 48 hour period, the well flowed at an average rate of 97 bpd, or barrels per day, of light crude oil. The well produced on average 10.3 m(3)/d, or cubic meters a day, of oil and 1,434 m(3)/d of gas during the production testing perio d from Jan. 31 to Feb. 16. Ryder Scott has attributed prospective resource of 140.8 million barrels of oil and 39 billion cubic feet of gas to the block which represents an equity net participation of 19.9 mmboe, or million barrels of oil equivalent, to Andes.

The next announcement said it plans to demerge its E&P activities and electricity assets into separate quoted companies. As plans for proposed demerger progress, it is the Company's intention to strengthen the board and management team with a strong representation of specialists in their respective industries. Alan Stark has been appointed Vice President of Geoscience for Andes; Stark is a geophysicist with 35 years E&P experience, having worked for past 30 years in Argentina. To find any resistance on the chart here, you will need to go back to 2008, when the stock had a little resistance at 75p. Support looks to be around the 55p area, but with the demerger plans, it would be a surprise to see the stock back at those levels.

the yard - generally the more the hype surrounding a share, the more likely it will under-perform. nice n quiet suits me just fine here :-).

As they say, the most tax efficient way, most likely would recieve shares in both companys, but watch the oil/gas side go.And it will be soon, as they say they want to push on with exploration/development.

Rubbish! This has been on my watchlist for weeks with an intent to buy, figured this was going to happen. Still looks very promising imo though. What will happen to the shares when the demerger takes place? Will they be split into each company?

You could be right but until v. recently the AEN share price had been climbing so my
guess is a buy but dyor.

Nonetheless that 350k share buy just now was a far larger trade than usual for AEN - corporate interest perhaps?

They must be holding drill results. Ypf I think only drilled 3 to 4 further wells into the Vaca Muerta after their loma de Lata norde success in 2011 including the Mata Mora, so to revise estimates much higher suggests the well is good. Looking for 300 boepd when stimulated.

Very little interest apparently despite the above and the only two (v. small trades) are mine

EDIT even so small a buys have ticked the share price up - lol
reEDIT must have been the larger trade that follwed.
