13/8/2005 12:33 | Gate Gourmet losing £22 million in 2004 and losses likely to increase in 2005 if restructuring does not take place. Perhaps BA may be tempted to look again at Alpha when contracts come up for renewal. In the meantime Alpha are making progress and profits. Market re-rating is now overdue IMO. opto | optomistic
12/8/2005 15:14 | Could this latest dispute at Heathrow be good for Alpha? | karldinnel
02/8/2005 15:20 | Thanks jeffian, and good luck to you Slinky Lady. I've had these a long time and still waiting for the breakout, it is IMO long overdue. Have a look at Alpha's website to see the progress they have made in development of the company, always been reliable divi payer to help the waiting. Alpha also has a 25% stock holder on board, Servair of France (hope my memory is good as to the name) Further involvement could take place here in due course, but seems patience is needed. Regards to you both opto | optomistic
02/8/2005 14:37 | dunno, but I've had this on my monitor for yonks, so just dipped a toe in the water for the first time. Will probably therefore head south from here... | slinky lady
02/8/2005 09:40 | Marked down this morning, no news around. Thoughts anyone? | optomistic
25/7/2005 18:02 | Another sucessfull 'product' from Alpha. Could we soon see a re rating of the share price, it's long overdue. GLORIOUS BRITAIN GOES FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH 25th July 2005 Alpha's Glorious Britain brand has added another store to its growing portfolio, with the launch of its largest outlet yet. The new 1163 square foot store is located airside at Gatwick Airport's North Terminal, and opened its doors on June 14th. The new store is already reporting excellent initial sales and is expected to become one of the chain's key sites. Glorious Britain already operates a landside outlet at Gatwick, as well as five stores at Heathrow Airport, one at Stansted Airport and one in Windsor town centre, opposite Windsor Castle. 2005 has been a busy year for the souvenir retailer. Earlier this year, the store at Heathrow's Terminal 1 was refitted to adopt the new store branding (first seen in Heathrow Terminal 3 just over two years ago) and also to boost its appeal to the changing passenger profile seen over the past 12 months. As part of the store overhaul, the food offering has been enhanced and rebadged 'Food Glorious Food'. According to Glorious Britain marketing manager, Ben Deller, the demand for souvenirs varies greatly among core nationalities and flight destinations and this shapes the nature of the products on sale in each airport store. Thus, flight movements from Terminal 4 and Terminal 1 in 2004 had a significant impact of the passenger profile mix. In additional to increased sales, the category sales mix was also affected Ben said: "We saw a major increase in the sale of our food gifts. Typically traditional British food is most popular amongst European visitors, while Americans tend to prefer to take home clothing, especially t-shirts." "Given the changing profile of the passengers now coming through Terminal 1, we have expanded our food range and created a dedicated 'Food Glorious Food' section selling a range of our most popular items including teas, jams and shortbreads." GIorious Britain's position as one of the UK's most successful souvenir retailers was confirmed in May, when it swept the board at 'The Greats' retailer awards. The brand walked away with the award for Best Souvenir Retailer and the highest accolade of the evening, Gift Retailer of the Year. | optomistic
05/7/2005 11:44 | Could the drop in price this morning be attributed to an attempted shake by the MM's? If so it may well have gone wrong, the buy for 52,000 that has just gone through could leave them looking for more stock. | optomistic
03/6/2005 19:34 | Thanks anyway Ian, as you say the trading statement reads well and the company is always activly developing their outlets and services. The news flow on the website has been quite good over the last several months. It is such a small campany that rarely attracts the markets attention but it surely will one day, and that could well be sooner rather than later. Trading is progressing well and with limited stock liquidity we could be on the verge of a substantial up move IMO. Regards, John | optomistic
03/6/2005 18:57 | optomistic, I'm sorry but I had to miss the AGM due to other commitments, but the trading statement issued via RNS read quite well and seemed to be well-received by the market. However, no new insights from me, I'm afraid. Sorry. Regards, Ian | jeffian
02/6/2005 11:12 | Just one MM on 99 to buy. | balcony
02/6/2005 11:05 | This reads well to me,i thought the cutback in retail spending might of affected sales,we should now move to year highs | balcony
14/5/2005 13:12 | That's two of us then Ian, should be more I think. Thanks I would appreciate news from the AGM, 2nd June I believe divi paid on the 8th. Noticed one failing on the web site, there are no forward dates calendered. I emailed them some while ago about this and was told it would be brought to the attention of the person who dealt with the site development. So it appears they only want to tell us when an event has happened and not one that is in the future. Bit difficult when stock is held in a nominee account, dates have to be searched out. Cheers, John | optomistic
14/5/2005 13:02 | Yes, I still hold. I usually go to the AGM (2/6) and I'll report back if any news. Given the growth of the retail side and the struggles of the inflight catering services, I'm beginning to wonder if they shouldn't focus on the former and ditch the latter. Regards, Ian | jeffian
14/5/2005 09:27 | New look Alpha web site, much improved: Anyone else still holding this stock? Could well be due for a re rating. IMO | optomistic
12/4/2005 12:51 | Alpha Airports Group PLC 12 April 2005 12th April 2005 Acquisition of Business in Romania Alpha Airports Group Plc ('Alpha') is pleased to announce that it has today acquired a small flight and retail catering business in Romania for a cash consideration of 5.0m (£3.4m). The Romanian business, carried on by Abela Rocas SA, is based at Henri Coanda International Airport, Bucharest and provides both flight catering to a number of airlines and retail catering at the airport. We have acquired 64.18% of the share capital of Abela Rocas. There are no pre-emption rights or options over the remaining shares, which are held by Tarom S.A., the Romanian state airline and major customer, and the Romanian Airport Authority, Compania Nationala Aeroportul International Henri Coanda. The turnover and profit before taxation of the business for the year ended 31 December 2004 was Romanian Lei 281.3 billion (£5.3m) and Romanian Lei 80.7 billion (£1.5m) respectively. The net assets to be acquired are Romanian Lei 29 billion (£0.5m). As highlighted in the recent results statement, Alpha is working on a significant number of opportunities to build and grow the business both organically and by acquisition. The acquisition of this business fits firmly into the strategic European development plans of the Group and follows on from our acquisition of 60% of the share capital of Istanbul Duty Free in November 2004. Commenting on the acquisition, Kevin Abbott, Chief Executive, said: 'This transaction is the next step forward in building our European network. The business in Romania is well run and has two local customers as partners. Eastern Europe is a new market for Alpha and we anticipate growth and further development opportunities as Romania progresses towards EU membership in the next few years. ' | optomistic
11/4/2005 11:29 | Tipped in Small Company Selector newsletter at the weekend. Looks a good argument, and Aberforth has a great long-term track record. | benyammin2
25/3/2005 14:00 | Thread gone quiet. Results due on the 31st March. | optomistic
05/2/2005 16:05 | Do you know, of course you don't, I bought these at 140p when they floated. My average price is 128P taking into account re-invested dividends. I am mildly optimistic that I may get near to making my money back. A bid would be nice but I don't think it likely, why buy AAP at 100p or higher when it could have been bought much cheaper? | lightning
04/2/2005 11:34 | Actually, I'm not so sure about that bid thing (I'll probably find it's been announced as I write this!). If you look at the chart, the share price is just reverting to its trend line after the upsets of the 'tsunami' and the profit warning. High volumes are explained by the fact that Fidelity have sold their 12% shareholding (2004) to just over 1% today and most of these have been picked up by Aberforth who now have 11.13% spread across various clients' funds. On a historic PER just under 13 and a divi yield close to 4% net at these levels, it may just be that the market is rating it at its fair value. Regards, Ian | jeffian
