ITS REALLY TOUGH OUT THERE ON HIGH STREET SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST SITUATION.
MANY LISTED HIGH STREET NAMES ARE REPORTING TOUGH RETAIL CONDITIONS LEADING UP TO THE ALL IMPORTANT FESTIVE PERIOD.

ALEXON HAVE VERY LITTLE CASH SUPPLIERS KNOW THAT AND THEY NEED TO KEEP THOSE
SUPPLIERS HAPPY TO GET THE GARMENTS IN FOR THIS IMPORTANT XMAS AND NEW YEAR
PERIOD.

I KNOW PEOPLE IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY THEY ARE SAYING BUSINESS IS BAD AND MANY WEAK HIGH STREET NAMES WILL GO UNDER DUE TO VERY HIGH COMPETITION BY COMPANIES WITH STRONGER BAL/SHEETS IF THESE WEAK COMPANIES DO NOT MAKE THE
SALES MANY WILL FOLD.

I AM AFRAID ALEXON IS ONE OF THEM WEAK COMPANIES. NO BANKS ARE WILLING TO LEND IF THINGS DO NOT GO ACCORDING TO PLAN OVER XMAS THEY MIGHT HAVE TO COME TO THE MARKET FOR MORE CASH AT DEEPLY DISCOUNTED PRICE.
WHO KNOWS WE ALL WAIT AND SEE.

hamida, i echo your views.

They have thrown money at it and it hasn't worked.

Do you think there will be another placing?

Can't agree with you. We had significant problems, but I'm happy that the Management have acted well over the last year to bring things under control. Obviously, in an uncertain economy, the future will be tough, but I firmly believe that we're heading the right way.

I would recommend that you vote with your feet and sell-up if you're uncomfortable.

hamidahamida.....Cannot argue with that although I was probably short here at the time to be honest but just wondering if there is any hope for this business from here ?

GUYS WE HAVE MANAGEMENT ISSUE HERE THEY ARE STUCK IN THE PAST AND NOT ON THE BALL AND HAVE NO VISION.

WE HAVE ALL WITNESSED HOW LIKES OF ASOS.COM HAVE BECOME OVER 1 BILLION POUND COMPANY IN FEW YEARS UNDER THEIR NOSES

AND AT SAME TIME DUE TO LACK OF VISION MANAGEMENT OF THIS COMPANY HAS BROUGHT ALEXON ON THE VERGE OF BANKRUPTCY.

FEW YEARS BACK THEY PAID SPECIAL/DIV WORTH MILLIONS TO SHARE HOLDERS THEY SHOULD HAVE RE-INVESTED THAT CASH ON E-COMMERCE SIDE OF THE BUSINESS

david - agree but cumulative position since start of year would be negative, so struggle to draw comfort from the statement

The Bounty Hunter....Surely you forgot to mention from the same announcement the following..

Current trading

ยท Trading since the half year has been encouraging with a like-for-like sales increase of 3.1% for the first 7 weeks of the second half, with some margin improvement

That is what continued progress is delivering..

The IMS should be in the last week in November so we will have a clearer picture ahead of the crucial December and January trading

Alexon Group plc announces its half year results for the 26 weeks ended 31 July
2010, demonstrating continued progress with the turnaround strategy.

Financial summary

Gross turnover down 9% with like-for-like sales down 5.5%

Demonstrating continued progress - with like-for-like sales down 5.5%. Where would the sales be without progress?

Tosh - next ims in late november 2010 should make interesting reading.

Interesting share price behaviour today - perhaps bottoming out.

I'm very surprised to see this retracement, given what I felt was a pretty upbeat TS.

I'm happy to sit tight and give the Company a chance.

FB, looks as if all of your instincts should be telling you to let go here and concentrate elsewhere on something about which you feel more at ease.

So the money from the placing was spent instantly on buying them out of leases.

A lot of rationalisation has taken place with regards warehousing etc.

But still they can not make money, and they have a high cash burn rate.

So no money left, and a high burn rate with minimal profit, where next?

Will the holders stand for another placing? I think not.

Will the banks lend them money again? Barclays were doing very regular liquidity/assett checks on them before.

Is their relocation to premium head office real estate really the answer?

There seems to be a new (additional) member on the BoD every month, what do these people really bring to the table?

Lots of ii activity of late, but the price seems to be stagnant.

Not sure what to make of this one......

I think directors will be well aware of working capital needs. What do you see in cashflow that the directors are missing ?

NOTE.

Yesterday one director spent nearly a third of his annual salary in buying shares in the company...would seem a strange move if company in extreme short term financial distress would you not think ?

I think today's report is good in showing the beginnings of a potential turnaround. Whilst the PER might not be wonderful now, in a years time it could be very much better.
