achilles - for shorters, the smaller the 'expected' loss they predict, the better. Actual loss when announced will be weighed against expectations ;-o

The more optimistic the expectations, the worse will be the impact of any numbers that don't measure up. I would have been pleased if analysts had said breakeven or profit was expected ;o)

I'm suprised that they are only expecting losses of £23.5 mil.

The Independent, 3 April -

...The private-equity group Kohlberg Kravis Roberts will want to forget Alea. The buyout giants own a 40 per cent stake in the Bermuda-based insurance company, which has been in decline since listing in London in 2003 at a little more than 260p a share. Its stock now languishes at 69.5p after a string of profits warnings, ratings downgrades and resignations.

KKR invested in Alea as part of its 1996 fund, so will need to sell out soon - but the company will need to report blockbuster figures if the exit is to be anything other than painful. With analysts expecting losses of about £23.5m, more bad news would not surprise anyone...

I have a small short on cantor. If stock was available to be borrowed economically it would be a long way further south. I have no idea about the effect of the results. But I am hoping that the lack of anything definative in the way of money being released in the near future will significantly worsen sentiment and a catastrophic negative cash flow. Though patience may be needed with the point at which bad news cannot be denied is probably a little later.

The news on the street is that they have not found a way to realise any money in the near term (ie. their valuation is way to high for anyone to want it). KKR have lost interest having just bought a massive US insurer. The run-off specialists have had a look and didnt like it. More bad news coming and the nav is pure fantasy. Also very odd that the executive are still in place with zero run-off experience...........

I'm not sure if you'll get in at 80p looking at the trend line which is getting increasingly closer i think 72p could be the max, as the results date of 4.4.2006 gets ever closer. but good luck anyway
